Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response addresses the task by identifying the main features of the bar chart. However, the analysis is somewhat mechanical, listing data points for each country without effectively synthesising the information or making meaningful comparisons. For instance, stating 'relaxing ratio of students stood at 7' is repetitive and lacks analytical depth. The overview is missing; instead of summarizing the general trends, the conclusion merely offers a subjective opinion about student interests, which is not required in an Academic Task 1 report. To improve, focus on grouping data to highlight key differences and similarities between the three countries rather than listing them individually.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The response is organized into paragraphs, but the progression of ideas is limited. The use of cohesive devices is basic and repetitive, such as the frequent use of 'stood at' and 'ratio of students'. While there is an attempt to use linking words like 'On the other hand' and 'In conclusion', the overall flow is disjointed. The referencing is sometimes unclear, and the paragraphing does not effectively separate the introduction, body, and conclusion in a logical way. Improving the variety of cohesive devices and ensuring smoother transitions between sentences would enhance the coherence of the report.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is limited and repetitive, relying heavily on the phrase 'ratio of students' and 'stood at' throughout the text. There is little evidence of less common lexical items or an attempt to use precise academic vocabulary. Some word choices are inaccurate, such as 'relaxing ratio' or 'highest ratio then other objects', which reflects a lack of control over collocation and comparative structures. To achieve a higher band, you should aim to use a wider range of synonyms and more precise terminology related to data description, such as 'proportion', 'percentage', 'allocated to', or 'devoted to'.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response uses a limited range of sentence structures, mostly relying on simple sentences. There are frequent grammatical errors, including subject-verb agreement issues (e.g., 'students spends thieir weekdays') and incorrect comparative structures (e.g., 'highest ratio then all other aspects'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, with unnecessary spaces before commas. While the meaning is generally clear, the high frequency of errors in basic grammar and sentence construction limits the score. Incorporating more complex sentence structures, such as relative clauses or subordinating conjunctions, would help improve the grammatical range.
