Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response covers the main features of the bar chart, identifying key trends for each country. However, the data reporting is inconsistent and contains inaccuracies. For instance, you state that in Japan, study time 'increased from 8 to 13 hour', which is a misinterpretation of a static bar chart comparing three countries rather than a timeline. Additionally, some figures are imprecise or incorrectly transcribed from the visual data. While you attempt to make comparisons, the lack of precision in reporting the data points limits the clarity of the summary. To improve, ensure that you accurately extract the specific values provided in the chart and avoid describing static data as a chronological change.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is organised into logical paragraphs, with an introduction, an overview, and body paragraphs for each country. However, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat mechanical and occasionally awkward. For example, 'This is following by' is grammatically incorrect and disrupts the flow. The transition between ideas is sometimes abrupt, and the referencing is not always clear. While there is an overall logical arrangement, the lack of sophisticated linking words and the repetitive structure of the sentences hinder the progression of ideas. Improving the variety of transition signals would help the response flow more naturally.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, but it is quite limited and repetitive. You rely on basic terms like 'spend', 'time', and 'amount'. There are also some noticeable errors in word choice and spelling, such as 'weeday' (weekday), 'lesuire' (leisure), and 'snd' (and). The use of 'scholars' to refer to students is slightly unnatural in this context. To reach a higher band, you should aim to use a wider range of vocabulary to describe data, such as 'allocate', 'devote', 'proportion', or 'figures', and ensure greater accuracy in spelling and collocation.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response contains a mix of simple and some attempted complex structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. Issues include subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'least students spend'), incorrect preposition usage, and errors in pluralisation (e.g., '8.5 hour' instead of '8.5 hours'). The sentence structure is often repetitive, and the misuse of articles and verb forms is consistent throughout the text. While the meaning is generally understandable, the high frequency of basic grammatical errors prevents the response from reaching a higher band. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and plural forms would be a good starting point for improvement.
