The bar chart shows the typical weekday for students in three different countries.

Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.

Student answer (Band 6.0)

The bar chart illustrates how students in the UK, Japan and Germany spend a typical weekday on sleeping, studying and relaxing.

Overall, students in Japan devote the greatest amount of time to studying, whereas those in the UK spend the most time sleeping. In all three countries, relaxing accounts for the smallest proportion of the day.

In the UK, students spend 8.5 hours sleeping, making it the activity that occupies the largest part of their day. This is followed by 8 hours spent studying, while the remaining 7 hours are devoted to relaxing.

By contrast, Japanese students spend 13 hours studying, which is considerably higher than in the other two countries. They sleep for 7 hours and devote only 4 hours to relaxation, the lowest figure shown on the chart.

In Germany, studying also takes up the largest share of the day at 9 hours. Students spend 8 hours sleeping and 7 hours relaxing, making their daily routine more balanced than that of Japanese students.
