Student answer (Band 5.0)

The bar chart shows the typical weekday for students in three different countries.

In the UK the percentage rate of sleeping is 8.5 percent ,studying rate is 8 percent and the relaxing rate is 7 percent. However sleeping is quite necessary so in UK country the rate of sleeping and studying is almost same .The peak rate of sleeping is high in UK.

In the Japan the percentage rate of sleeping is 7 percent ,studying rate is 13 percent that why japan is one of the most development country and the relaxing rate is 4 percent. The peak rate of studying is high in japan.

In the Germany the percentage rate of sleeping is 8 percent ,studying rate is 9 percent and the relaxing rate is 7 percent. The peak rate of studying is high in Germany.

sleeping is quite necessary and studying is also important so the best way to study is that if we are fresh we finished our sleeping so we study quite for a long time and after we take a break for a relaxing of a body and then again we back to study people of Japan use this trick to study that is why japan is one of the develop country.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.0

The response fails to meet the requirements of an Academic Task 1 report. While you have identified some data points, you have not provided an overview or a summary of the main trends. Furthermore, the final paragraph is entirely irrelevant; it offers personal opinions and theories about why Japan is a 'developed country' rather than reporting the data from the chart. In IELTS Academic Task 1, you must remain objective and avoid adding personal commentary or external knowledge. To improve, focus on identifying the highest and lowest values across the three countries and grouping the data logically to make comparisons, rather than listing each country in isolation.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The response is organised into paragraphs, but the logical progression is weak. The final paragraph is disconnected from the data analysis and introduces irrelevant information, which disrupts the flow of the report. Cohesive devices are used in a very basic and repetitive manner (e.g., 'In the UK', 'In the Japan', 'In the Germany'). There is a lack of linking words to compare the data between the countries effectively. To improve, use a wider range of cohesive devices such as 'whereas', 'in contrast', or 'similarly' to connect your sentences and ensure that every paragraph serves the purpose of describing the provided visual information.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary is limited and repetitive, relying heavily on the phrase 'percentage rate of'. There are also errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'most development country' instead of 'most developed country'. You also use informal phrasing like 'use this trick', which is inappropriate for an academic report. To achieve a higher band, you should use a more varied vocabulary to describe data, such as 'proportion', 'figure', 'account for', or 'constitute', and ensure that you use the correct grammatical forms of adjectives and nouns.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The response contains frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. There are issues with article usage (e.g., 'in UK country', 'in the Japan'), subject-verb agreement, and sentence structure. Many sentences are simple or run-on, and there is a lack of complex sentence structures. Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with spacing around commas and periods. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction, ensuring correct article usage, and proofreading for punctuation errors. Increasing the use of complex sentences—such as using subordinate clauses—will help demonstrate a wider grammatical range.
