Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response attempts to summarise the data, but it fails to provide a clear overview or effectively highlight the main features. The description of the data is repetitive and lacks analytical depth. For instance, the report simply lists figures for each country rather than making meaningful comparisons or identifying significant trends. The overview provided in the first paragraph is confusing and inaccurate, as it misidentifies the chart type and uses vague terminology like 'sleeping rate was elevated'. To improve, you should focus on grouping data logically and identifying the most significant differences or similarities between the countries, rather than listing every data point individually.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The essay is organised into paragraphs, but the progression of ideas is disjointed. The use of cohesive devices is mechanical and often misused, such as 'On the other hand' which does not logically connect the preceding sentence to the following one. Referencing is also problematic; for example, the phrase 'which was decreased to UK sleeping rate' is unclear and lacks proper grammatical connection. Paragraphing is present, but the internal structure of each paragraph is weak, making it difficult for the reader to follow the comparison of the three countries. More varied and accurate linking words are needed to improve the flow.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary is limited and repetitive. You frequently use the word 'rate' to describe time spent on activities, which is inaccurate in this context; 'hours' or 'time spent' would be more appropriate. There are also issues with word choice, such as 'boosted' and 'elevated', which are not suitable for describing time allocation. Some phrasing is awkward, such as 'relaxing rate was remain constant'. To reach a higher band, you should aim to use a wider range of vocabulary related to data description, such as 'allocated', 'devoted', 'proportion', or 'significant difference', and ensure that your word choices are contextually accurate.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The response contains frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. There are significant issues with sentence structure, such as 'This illustration is give the line graph by the bar chart', which is syntactically incorrect. Subject-verb agreement is inconsistent, and there is a lack of complex sentence structures. Punctuation is also problematic, with missing spaces after commas and incorrect capitalization. Many sentences are fragmented or run-on, which makes the text difficult to read. Focusing on basic sentence construction—ensuring every sentence has a clear subject and verb—and proofreading for punctuation errors will help improve your score.
