Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

You have successfully identified the main features of the bar chart, such as the high study hours in Japan and the balanced distribution in the UK. However, the response lacks a clear, analytical overview. While you mention that students in Japan and Germany prefer studying, the comparison could be more precise. Additionally, there are some inaccuracies in data reporting; for instance, stating that UK and Germany students spend the same amount of time relaxing (7 hours) is not fully supported by the visual data provided. To achieve a higher band, ensure that your summary highlights the most significant trends rather than just listing individual data points, and double-check the accuracy of your comparisons.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The response is organised into logical paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the information. You use some cohesive devices like 'Furthermore', 'In addition', and 'While', which assist in linking ideas. However, the use of these devices is sometimes mechanical or slightly repetitive. The progression of ideas is generally clear, but the transition between the overview and the body paragraphs could be smoother. To improve, try to vary your linking words and ensure that each paragraph focuses on a distinct aspect of the data to avoid jumping between categories too abruptly.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

You have used a sufficient range of vocabulary to describe the data, such as 'illustrates', 'calibrated', 'concentrate', and 'distribute'. However, there are some issues with word choice and collocation, such as 'students consist minimum hours' instead of 'students spend the minimum number of hours'. There are also minor errors in phrasing, such as 'students prefer to studying' instead of 'students prefer studying'. While the vocabulary is adequate for the task, incorporating more precise academic collocations would enhance the quality of your writing and help you reach a higher band score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. However, there are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text, such as 'students sleeping for around 8.5 hours' (should be 'students sleep for') and 'its followed by' (should be 'it is followed by'). Subject-verb agreement and article usage (e.g., 'in UK' instead of 'in the UK') are inconsistent. While these errors do not prevent the reader from understanding your meaning, they occur frequently enough to impact the overall fluency. Focusing on basic subject-verb agreement and the correct use of articles will significantly improve your accuracy.
