Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response addresses the task by identifying the main features of the bar chart. However, there are significant inaccuracies in data reporting. For instance, you state that students in the UK spend 8.5 hours sleeping and 8 hours studying, but the chart shows 8 hours for sleeping and 8.5 hours for studying. Furthermore, the claim that Japanese students spend 'nearly half' of their time sleeping compared to studying is mathematically imprecise. While you attempt to make comparisons, the lack of precision in interpreting the data prevents a higher score. To improve, ensure that you double-check the figures against the visual data before writing.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is organised into logical paragraphs, and there is a clear attempt to use cohesive devices such as 'Moreover', 'Firstly', and 'Furthermore'. However, the flow is occasionally disrupted by awkward phrasing and mechanical transitions. For example, the phrase 'in comparison from the given three nations here' is unnatural and hinders the logical progression of the sentence. Additionally, the referencing is sometimes unclear, making it difficult for the reader to follow the comparisons between the three countries. Improving the variety and accuracy of your linking words will help create a smoother, more professional flow.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'demonstrates', 'schedule', and 'determinant'. However, there are several instances of word-choice errors and awkward collocations, such as 'most determinant' (likely meaning 'most dedicated') and 'giving time for' (which is repetitive). Some phrasing is also non-standard, such as 'the nation where most of the student's schedule is recorded for the purpose of Studying'. To reach a higher band, focus on using more precise academic vocabulary and ensuring that your word choices are natural and appropriate for the context of describing data.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. However, there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. Examples include subject-verb agreement issues ('learners in UK does not have'), incorrect preposition usage ('in comparison from'), and awkward sentence construction ('students difference in spending time for activities is exactly 1 hours different'). While the meaning is generally understandable, these recurring errors in basic grammar and punctuation prevent the response from reaching a higher band. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and consistent tense usage will significantly improve the quality of your writing.
