Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response attempts to summarize the data but fails to accurately interpret the chart. The student incorrectly identifies the units as 'days' instead of hours, which is a significant misinterpretation of the data provided. While the response covers the three countries and mentions the main categories (study, sleep, relax), the lack of accuracy in reporting the figures prevents a higher score. The overview is present but lacks clarity due to the misinterpretation of the data. To improve, ensure you carefully read the axes and labels of the chart before writing to avoid factual errors.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is organized into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat mechanical and occasionally inaccurate, such as 'To further analyzing the graph'. The progression of ideas is sometimes hindered by the confusion regarding the data points. While there is an attempt at logical sequencing, the transitions between sentences could be smoother and more varied. The referencing is occasionally unclear, particularly when comparing the countries, which makes the overall flow feel somewhat disjointed.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is limited and repetitive. The student relies on basic terms like 'preferred habit' and 'advanced country', which are not appropriate for describing statistical data. There are also issues with word choice, such as 'It can be seemed' and 'most of the time was spending'. The range of vocabulary is just sufficient to convey the basic meaning, but it lacks the precision and flexibility required for higher bands. To improve, focus on using more academic collocations and precise terminology for describing trends and data comparisons.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response contains frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. There are consistent issues with subject-verb agreement, such as 'student's spend' and 'Japanese spend most of time'. Additionally, there are errors in tense usage and sentence structure, such as 'most of the time was spending'. The range of structures is limited, consisting mostly of simple sentences with some attempts at complex ones that are often faulty. Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with the unnecessary use of apostrophes in plural nouns like 'student's'.
