Typical weekday for students in three different countries

Student answer (Band 5.0)

The given bar chart illustrates the typical weekdays weekdays for students in different countries.

Overall, the graph demonstrates three different countries I.e UK, Japan and Germany represented with three different colours like blue for sleeping , red for studying and green for relaxing.

If we see Japan , then it is clear students here are high in education. The education level is high in Japan that is 13 hours a day and the sleeping schedule is also good that is 7 hours but the relax mood here is only 4 hours.

The comparison between Uk and Germany’s sleeping schedule has minor difference of 0.5 hour and studying difference is one hour in Germany in higher than in Uk. But both countries have same relaxing hours. These two countries shows similarity in typical workday but Japan has such hectic study routine that leads it for high quality education system in the world.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response provides a basic overview of the data but fails to report key features accurately. For instance, you mention 13 hours of study for Japan, which is not supported by the visual data provided. The analysis is largely descriptive rather than analytical, and you include subjective commentary ('hectic study routine', 'high quality education system') which is not present in the chart. To improve, focus strictly on the data provided, ensure your figures are accurate, and provide a more comprehensive comparison of all three countries rather than focusing primarily on Japan.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The response is organised into paragraphs, but the logical flow is weak. The use of cohesive devices is limited and sometimes repetitive or unnatural, such as 'If we see Japan, then it is clear'. The referencing is occasionally unclear, and the transition between the overview and the body paragraphs is abrupt. To reach a higher band, use a wider range of linking words and phrases to connect your ideas more fluidly, and ensure that each paragraph has a clear focus, such as grouping the data by category (sleeping, studying, relaxing) rather than by country.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary is somewhat limited and repetitive. You use basic terms like 'good', 'high', and 'same'. There are also some awkward collocations, such as 'relax mood' and 'typical workday' (when the task refers to a weekday). While the meaning is generally clear, the lack of precise vocabulary to describe trends and data points (e.g., 'proportion', 'figure', 'allocate', 'surpass') prevents a higher score. Focus on learning topic-specific vocabulary related to charts and graphs to improve your precision and range.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The response contains a mix of simple and some complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors. Examples include 'the graph demonstrates three different countries I.e UK', 'Germany in higher than in Uk', and 'These two countries shows similarity'. Subject-verb agreement and article usage (e.g., 'the Uk') are inconsistent. While these errors do not completely impede communication, they are frequent enough to lower the score. Focus on proofreading for basic errors like pluralisation and verb agreement to improve your accuracy.
