The bar chart shows the typical weekday for students in three different countries.
Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.
Student answer (Band 5.0)
As the graph illustrates , typical weekdays of three countries, Germany, Japan and uk it shows three factors sleeping the graph is in blue color, studying the graph is in red color and lastly, green graph is relaxing,
Now if we see japan has higher rate of studying as compare to others, uk has higher rate of sleeping and moreover Germany also have higher rate of studying but less than japan for instance the graph goes from 0 to 14 percentage, so if we talk about uk, 8.5% is sleeping, 8% is studying while 7% is relaxing
In comparison japan has 7% of sleeping 13 % studying and 4% relaxing, Now if we talk about Germany 8% is sleeping 9% is studying and 7% is relaxing
In conclusion studying rate is high in japan and Germany while sleeping rate is high in uk and relaxing is same in uk and Germany 7% but in japan people relaxed less in comparison with other two countries

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response identifies the main features of the chart, such as the comparative rates of sleeping, studying, and relaxing. However, the presentation is somewhat mechanical and lacks a clear overview. The data reporting is inconsistent; for instance, the description of the graph's visual elements (colors) is unnecessary and detracts from the analysis. While the student attempts to compare the three countries, the lack of a clear structure makes it difficult to follow the trends. The response covers the requirements but lacks the analytical depth and synthesis expected for a higher band score.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay lacks a logical flow. The introduction is cluttered with unnecessary descriptions of the graph's visual appearance rather than a summary of the data. Paragraphing is present but the transition between ideas is weak, relying on repetitive phrases like 'Now if we talk about'. Cohesive devices are limited and often used incorrectly, making the progression of information feel disjointed. The conclusion is a simple summary of the previously mentioned figures rather than a synthesis of the main trends, which limits the overall coherence of the response.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is basic and repetitive. The student relies heavily on simple terms like 'higher rate', 'studying', and 'sleeping'. There is little attempt to use a range of vocabulary to describe trends or comparisons (e.g., 'proportion', 'percentage', 'significant', 'marginal'). The phrasing is often awkward, such as 'the graph is in blue color', which is not appropriate for an academic report. To improve, the student should focus on using more precise terminology to describe statistical data and avoid repeating the same sentence structures.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response contains frequent grammatical errors, including issues with subject-verb agreement ('Germany also have', 'relaxing is same'), punctuation (lack of full stops, comma splices), and sentence structure. Many sentences are run-on or fragmented, which hinders readability. There is a lack of complex sentence structures, and the control over basic grammar is inconsistent. The frequent errors in tense and article usage indicate a need for a stronger grasp of fundamental English grammar to improve clarity and accuracy.
