Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response attempts to summarise the data, but it fails to provide a clear overview or a coherent comparison. The student repeats the same information twice in different paragraphs, which indicates a lack of planning. While the main features are mentioned, the data points are often inaccurate or poorly presented (e.g., '8-9' or 'around 13'). The analysis is superficial and lacks the necessary synthesis required for an Academic Task 1 response. The inclusion of subjective commentary, such as 'students in UK slightly not active enough', is inappropriate for a data summary task.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay lacks logical progression. The most significant issue is the repetition of the entire body content, where the student essentially writes the same information twice. Paragraphing is present but ineffective because the content within the paragraphs is redundant. Cohesive devices are used in a mechanical and often incorrect way, such as 'In Addition' and 'moreover', which do not help to link ideas logically. The referencing is unclear, and the overall structure is disjointed, making the response difficult to follow.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is limited and repetitive. The student relies on basic terms like 'things', 'activities', and 'highest'. There are frequent spelling errors, such as 'diffrent', 'samel', 'onely', 'persentage', 'approximulty', 'recpectivily', and 'weelyay'. These errors, combined with awkward phrasing like 'Sleeping looks the bet', indicate a lack of control over word choice and spelling. The range of vocabulary is insufficient to convey the data with the precision required for this task.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response contains frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede communication. There are consistent issues with subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'The bar chart illustrate'), missing articles, and incorrect sentence structure. Punctuation is also problematic, with inconsistent use of commas and colons. While the student attempts some complex structures, they are often faulty or unclear. The majority of sentences contain errors, and the lack of control over basic grammar significantly lowers the quality of the writing.
