Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response attempts to summarise the bar chart but fails to accurately report the data. There are significant inaccuracies in the figures cited (e.g., claiming 13% for studying in Japan when the chart shows a much higher figure, and stating the UK data is the same as Germany, which is not supported by the visual evidence). The overview is also problematic, as it incorrectly refers to the 'weekend' instead of the 'weekday'. While the response identifies the three categories, the lack of factual accuracy and the failure to provide a clear, accurate summary of the main features significantly hinders the task achievement.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay is organised into paragraphs, but the logical progression is weak. While some cohesive devices like 'Likewise', 'Similarly', and 'However' are used, they are often employed incorrectly or do not logically connect the ideas. The referencing is sometimes unclear, particularly when comparing the UK and Germany. The flow is disjointed, and the transition between the introduction and the body paragraphs is mechanical. The overall structure is present, but the internal logic within paragraphs is frequently confusing, making it difficult for the reader to follow the comparison of the data.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is limited and often inappropriate for an academic report. The use of the word 'Disciples' to refer to students is incorrect in this context. There is also repetitive use of basic phrasing such as 'spend their time' and 'percentage of'. Some word choices are imprecise, such as 'major priority of student', which lacks the necessary academic tone. While the student attempts to use some topic-specific vocabulary like 'percentage' and 'nations', the range is insufficient to convey the information with precision, and the errors in word choice occasionally impede clarity.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response contains frequent grammatical errors that affect readability. There are issues with subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'chart illustrates', 'major priority of student'), incorrect article usage, and awkward sentence structures (e.g., 'least student spend their time'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, with unnecessary spaces before colons and commas. The range of structures is limited, consisting mostly of simple or poorly constructed complex sentences. While the meaning is generally discernible, the high frequency of errors in basic grammar prevents the writing from reaching a higher band score.
