Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 150 words, which significantly impacts the task achievement score. While you have identified some main features, the analysis is hampered by factual inaccuracies and confusion regarding the data. For instance, you mention 'sleeping' twice for the UK and misinterpret the categories. The overview is present but lacks clarity due to these errors. To improve, ensure you carefully read the chart labels and data points before writing. You must also provide a more accurate summary of the trends rather than listing individual figures without clear comparative analysis. The under-length penalty is applied here as the response is 145 words.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is organised into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat mechanical and occasionally inaccurate, such as the repetitive use of 'In UK' and 'In Germany'. The logical progression is hindered by the factual errors mentioned in the task achievement section, which makes the comparison between countries confusing. To achieve a higher band, focus on using a wider variety of linking words (e.g., 'in contrast', 'conversely', 'meanwhile') and ensure that your referencing is precise so that the reader can easily follow the comparisons you are making between the three nations.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The range of vocabulary is limited and repetitive. You frequently use basic verbs like 'spend' and 'like'. There are also issues with word choice and collocation, such as 'distinctive nation named' instead of 'distinct countries' and 'favorable choice is to studying' which is grammatically awkward. To improve, try to incorporate more precise vocabulary related to data description, such as 'proportion', 'percentage', 'allocate', and 'devote'. Expanding your range of synonyms for 'study' and 'relax' will also help demonstrate a better command of English and improve the overall quality of your writing.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

There are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text that occasionally impede clarity. Examples include 'majority of pupils likes' (subject-verb agreement), 'Japan and Germany students preference is to studying' (incorrect possessive and gerund usage), and 'In all three nation' (pluralization error). The sentence structures are relatively simple, and attempts at more complex sentences often contain errors. To improve, focus on mastering basic subject-verb agreement and the correct use of prepositions. Proofreading your work for these common errors before finishing will help you move into a higher band.
