Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response covers the main features of the bar chart and makes relevant comparisons between the three countries. However, the analysis is somewhat mechanical and lacks a clear overview of the data trends. While you have identified the highest and lowest points, the report would benefit from grouping the data more effectively to highlight the relationships between the categories (sleeping, studying, and relaxing). The figures are accurately reported, but the lack of units (e.g., hours) makes the data points ambiguous. To improve, ensure you provide a more comprehensive summary that synthesizes the information rather than just listing the figures for each country sequentially.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The response is organized into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat repetitive and mechanical. For example, the transition 'Furthermore' is used, but the connection between sentences could be smoother. The referencing is occasionally unclear, such as when you mention 'the number of people' without specifying that these represent hours in a day. The progression of ideas is logical, but the overall flow is hindered by simple sentence structures and a lack of varied linking words to connect the comparisons between the three countries more fluidly.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is adequate for the task but remains quite basic. You rely on repetitive phrasing such as 'the number of people who spend time on...' and 'the number is...'. To reach a higher band, you should aim for more varied vocabulary to describe data, such as 'allocate time to,' 'devote,' or 'the figures for.' There are also minor errors in capitalization and punctuation, such as 'uk' instead of 'UK' and the inconsistent use of commas. Expanding your range of synonyms for 'study' and 'relax' would also improve the quality of your writing.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The response uses a mix of simple and some complex sentence structures. However, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with articles (e.g., 'in uk', 'the number of student') and subject-verb agreement. Punctuation is also inconsistent, with unnecessary spaces before commas and missing capital letters for proper nouns. While these errors do not completely impede communication, they are frequent enough to affect the overall clarity of the report. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction, including correct article usage and ensuring that subjects and verbs agree in number.
