Typical weekday for students in three different countries

Student answer (Band 6.0)

The bar chart compares the average time allocation for various daily activities on a typical weekday among students across three distinct nations.

Overall, students from Germany and UK balances their activities including sleeping, studying and relaxing, while Japanese students study most as compare to other things.

Britain pupils spent about 8.5 hours a day sleeping, which was highest compared to other nation like Japan and Germany, where pupils allocated 7 hours and 8 hours to sleeping respectively. Learners from UK and Germany seemed to relax 7 hours.

Meanwhile, learners from japan, not preferred to waste their time on relaxing and allocated least hours to it and preferred to study around 13 hours a day, which was considered very high compared to UK and German learners, who spent 8 hours and 9 hours of their working days time studying. As Japanese study time was elevated, it left only 4 hours of their day for activities like relaxing.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response covers the main features of the bar chart, identifying key differences in time allocation between the three countries. You successfully highlight the contrast between Japanese students' study time and the more balanced schedules in the UK and Germany. However, the report lacks a clear, analytical overview of the data trends. While you mention the main points, the comparison could be more precise; for instance, the data for 'relaxing' is slightly misinterpreted in the text. To reach a higher band, ensure that all figures are accurately transcribed and that the overview synthesizes the data rather than just listing individual statistics.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, with an introduction, an overview, and body paragraphs. There is a clear progression of ideas. However, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat mechanical and occasionally repetitive (e.g., 'Meanwhile', 'which was'). Some sentences feel disjointed, and the referencing is occasionally unclear, such as the transition between the discussion of sleeping and relaxing. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring smoother transitions between sentences would enhance the flow and coherence of the report.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'time allocation', 'distinct nations', and 'elevated'. However, there are several instances of awkward word choice and collocation errors, such as 'Britain pupils' (should be 'British students'), 'as compare to' (should be 'compared to'), and 'working days time'. Additionally, there are minor errors in capitalization, such as 'japan' and 'uk'. To improve, focus on using more precise academic collocations and ensure consistent attention to proper noun capitalization.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The response uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors that affect the quality of the writing. Examples include subject-verb agreement issues ('students... balances'), missing articles ('compared to other nation'), and awkward phrasing ('not preferred to waste their time'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, with some run-on sentences and unnecessary spaces. While these errors do not completely impede communication, they occur frequently enough to limit the score. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and article usage will significantly improve your accuracy.
