Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response attempts to summarise the data, but it fails to accurately report the figures. The interpretation of the bar chart is flawed; for example, the student mentions '15 days' and '14 days' for the UK and Japan, which are not supported by the data provided. Furthermore, the comparisons are confusing and mathematically inaccurate, such as stating 'entertainment are equal for Uk and Germany but Japan has 3 days less'. The overview is present but lacks clarity due to these factual errors. To improve, focus on accurately transcribing the data points and ensuring that comparisons are based on the actual values shown in the chart.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay is organised into paragraphs, but the logical flow is hindered by unclear referencing and awkward phrasing. While there is an attempt to use cohesive devices like 'In the case of' and 'For Germany', the connections between sentences are often weak or confusing. The progression of ideas is difficult to follow because the data points are presented in a disjointed manner. To improve, ensure that each paragraph has a clear focus and use linking words more precisely to guide the reader through the comparison of the three countries.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The range of vocabulary is limited and repetitive. There are several instances of awkward word choices, such as 'teaching period' instead of 'study time' and 'entertainment' used interchangeably with 'relax time'. Spelling errors like 'alomost' and 'patern' also detract from the quality of the writing. To reach a higher band, you should aim to use a wider variety of vocabulary related to data description, such as 'allocated', 'proportion', 'significant', and 'comparatively', while ensuring accurate spelling and appropriate collocations.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response contains frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede communication. There are issues with subject-verb agreement ('entertainment are equal'), article usage ('the UK'), and sentence structure ('where as, time allocated for study is on the top'). The use of complex structures is limited and often results in errors, such as the run-on sentence in the second paragraph. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction, ensuring correct subject-verb agreement, and proofreading for punctuation errors, particularly around the use of commas and conjunctions.
