Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response attempts to summarize the data but fails to provide a clear or accurate overview. The information presented is often confusing or contradictory; for instance, the claim that students in the UK 'sleep more rather than study' is not clearly supported by the data provided. Furthermore, the figures cited (e.g., '8.5', '13') are presented without units or context, making the report difficult to follow. The comparison between countries is underdeveloped, and the lack of a clear summary of the main trends prevents the response from reaching a higher band. To improve, focus on identifying the most significant differences and similarities rather than listing individual data points.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay is organized into paragraphs, which is a positive step. However, the logical progression of ideas is weak. The use of cohesive devices is often mechanical or misused, such as the repetitive use of 'moreover' and 'meanwhile' to connect unrelated points. Referencing is also problematic; for example, the phrase 'UK and Germany students are number of relaxing are same' is grammatically awkward and makes the comparison difficult to follow. The flow between sentences is frequently interrupted by these structural issues, which hinders the overall readability of the report.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The range of vocabulary is quite limited and repetitive. The student relies heavily on basic verbs like 'study', 'sleep', and 'relax'. There are also issues with word choice and collocation, such as 'students are less relaxing in weekday' instead of 'students spend less time relaxing on weekdays'. The phrasing 'higher number of students are studying' is functional but lacks the precision expected for an Academic Task 1 report. To achieve a higher score, the student should incorporate more varied vocabulary related to data description, such as 'allocate time to', 'the majority of', or 'a significant proportion'.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response contains frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede communication. There are consistent issues with subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'studying is mostly prefer by the students') and article usage (e.g., 'in UK', 'in Japan'). Sentence structures are generally simple, and attempts at more complex sentences often result in errors, such as 'Japan students are less relaxing then UK and Germany students which 4'. Punctuation is also inconsistent. To improve, the student needs to focus on basic sentence construction, ensuring that subjects and verbs agree and that prepositions are used correctly.
