Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response covers the main features of the bar chart, including comparisons between the three countries. However, the report lacks precision in data reporting. For instance, stating 'around 8.5 hours' for sleep in the UK is vague, and the phrasing 'maximum number of hours given than by other countries' is slightly awkward. While the main trends are identified, the analysis could be more effectively structured to highlight the most significant differences rather than listing data points country by country. The overview is present but could be more clearly integrated to provide a stronger summary of the overall patterns observed in the data.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is organized into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the information. However, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat mechanical and occasionally inaccurate. For example, the sentence 'However. In sleeping...' uses a full stop incorrectly, disrupting the flow. Transitions between ideas are sometimes abrupt, such as the shift between the overview and the body paragraphs. While the progression of ideas is generally logical, the lack of sophisticated linking words and the occasional misuse of punctuation limit the coherence of the response.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks variety and precision. There are several instances of awkward word choice, such as 'youngsters denote their 9 hours in study' and 'scholars of Germany'. The term 'denote' is used incorrectly here; 'spend' or 'allocate' would be more appropriate. Additionally, there are spelling errors like 'rountine' and 'Uk' (which should be 'UK'). The range of vocabulary is limited, and the student relies on repetitive phrasing, which prevents the response from reaching a higher band score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. Subject-verb agreement issues are common, such as 'students of Japan spends' and 'scholars of Germany follows'. There are also issues with preposition usage and sentence fragments, such as 'However. In sleeping...'. While the meaning is generally understandable, the frequency of these errors indicates a lack of control over complex structures. Improving accuracy in basic grammar and punctuation is essential for a higher score.
