Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The response effectively addresses the task by identifying the main features and making relevant comparisons. You successfully highlighted the key differences between the three countries, such as the contrast between Japanese study hours and UK sleep hours. The overview is clear and provides a good summary of the data trends. To reach a higher band, ensure that all data points are accurate; for instance, your summary states that relaxing accounts for the least number of hours in each nation, but for the UK and Germany, relaxing is actually equal to or higher than other categories depending on the specific data interpretation. Ensure your comparisons are consistently supported by the provided figures.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, overview, and body paragraphs focusing on specific activities. The progression of ideas is easy to follow. You use cohesive devices such as 'Furthermore', 'In terms of', and 'Regarding' to link your points effectively. However, some transitions feel slightly mechanical. To improve, try to vary your linking phrases and ensure that the connection between sentences is more fluid. The paragraphing is appropriate, and each paragraph has a clear central topic, which helps the reader navigate the information provided in the bar chart.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'distribution', 'prioritized', 'proportion', and 'comprising'. The language used is generally accurate and conveys the intended meaning clearly. There are a few minor issues with word choice, such as 'Japan had the largest differences in proportion', which is slightly imprecise. To achieve a higher score, try to incorporate more sophisticated collocations and less common lexical items related to data description, such as 'a significant disparity' or 'the most prominent feature'. Overall, the vocabulary is sufficient to communicate the information effectively without any confusion.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The response uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While there are some grammatical errors, such as 'Germany and the UK stands at' (subject-verb agreement) and 'lowest number of hours regardless of the countries', these do not impede communication. You have a good grasp of sentence structure, but you should pay closer attention to subject-verb agreement and pluralization. Increasing the variety of complex structures, such as using more relative clauses or passive voice constructions, would help demonstrate a wider grammatical range. Proofreading for small errors like missing articles or incorrect verb forms will help improve your accuracy.
