Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.0

The response attempts to summarize the bar chart illustrating the typical weekday for students in the UK, Japan, and Germany. However, the interpretation of the data contains significant inaccuracies and misreadings of the figures presented in the chart. For instance, the student states that Japan recorded around 13 percent for studying and that UK and Germany are almost the same in all activities. The response fails to accurately report the main features and make precise comparisons as required by the task prompt. Ideas are presented, but they are underdeveloped due to inaccurate data extraction. Therefore, the response falls into the Band 4 descriptor for Task Achievement because the information presented is frequently inaccurate and the task is only minimally addressed.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 4.0

The response attempts to organize information into paragraphs, but the overall logical progression is severely disrupted by confusing phrasing, punctuation errors, and disjointed transitions such as 'By having general overview' and 'Moving further ahead'. Paragraphing is attempted, but internal cohesion is faulty and mechanical. Referencing between sentences is often unclear, making it difficult for the reader to follow the flow of information. There is an over-reliance on formulaic and unnatural introductory phrases. These issues place the response firmly at Band 4, as information and ideas are not arranged coherently enough to ensure a smooth progression throughout the text.

Lexical Resource — Band 4.0

The vocabulary used throughout the response is very basic and repetitive, with frequent misspellings and inappropriate word choices, such as 'illuestrates', 'recoreded', 'studing', and 'comare'. The range of vocabulary is severely limited and inadequate for a Task 1 response, failing to accurately describe statistical trends like proportions, percentages, or comparative structures. Although some basic topic-related words like 'sleeping', 'studying', and 'relaxing' are present, the pervasive errors in spelling and word formation strain the reader and impede communication. This performance aligns with the Band 4 descriptor, reflecting basic and repetitive vocabulary with frequent errors.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.0

The response demonstrates a very limited range of grammatical structures. Most sentences contain severe errors in construction, tense usage, and punctuation. Examples include fragmented expressions like 'The data represent in three countries students working in weekdays' and 'It was comare with Japan it is decreasing trend.' There is a lack of control over basic sentence boundaries, leading to run-on sentences and ungrammatical clauses. Errors are frequent and often distort the intended meaning, causing significant difficulty for the reader. These persistent inaccuracies across simple and attempted complex structures place the grammar score at Band 4.
