Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.5
The response attempts to cover the main features of the bar chart, outlining hours spent on sleeping, studying, and relaxing across the UK, Japan, and Germany. However, there are significant misinterpretations of the data, such as treating the numbers as percentages rather than hours, and stating that studying and relaxing are 'decreased' rather than reporting absolute time values. The overview is weak, containing confusing phrasing ('most increased weekday in japan for studying While the the relaxing students is decraesed'). While all three countries and activities are mentioned, the lack of accurate data reporting and flawed comparative analysis keeps this response at a lower band level.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 4.0
The text is organized into paragraphs, attempting an introductory sentence, body paragraphs for details, and an overall summary. However, logical progression is severely disrupted by confusing sentence structures and repetitive phrasing. Cohesive devices are either misused or absent, and the referencing is frequently unclear, making it hard to follow the comparisons between countries. Paragraphing is attempted, but internal cohesion fails to create a smooth flow of ideas. Punctuation errors, such as missing capital letters at the beginnings of sentences (e.g., 'the proportion showes', 'on other side'), further detract from the overall readability and cohesion of the response.
Lexical Resource — Band 4.0
The vocabulary used is very basic and repetitive, with frequent spelling errors throughout the text (e.g., 'Relxing', 'contries', 'showes', 'percantages', 'decraesed', 'higly', 'stdying', 'howover', 'relxing', 'leesen'). There are also awkward word combinations and inappropriate lexical choices, such as 'the relaxing students is decraesed' and 'the japan is higly grow in stdying students'. The range of vocabulary is limited and inadequate for a standard academic task, frequently impeding communication due to the density of spelling and word-choice errors.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.0
The student relies heavily on simple sentence structures, and attempts at more complex sentences are almost entirely faulty. There are persistent and severe grammatical errors throughout the text, including subject-verb agreement issues (e.g., 'the proportion showes', 'the relaxing students is decraesed', 'Germany usualy students studying is 9%'), incorrect prepositions, and missing articles. Punctuation and capitalization are poorly controlled, with multiple sentences starting in lowercase and random capitalization occurring mid-sentence. These errors occur with high frequency and frequently obscure the intended meaning.
