The bar chart shows the typical weekday for students in three different countries.

Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.

Student answer (Band 7.0)

The bar chart illustrates how a standard day during the week looks for students in the UK, Japan and Germany based on how many hours they spend on three different activiites. .

Overall, it is evident that in two of the three countries studying is the most common way to spend a weekday with only one country spending more time on another activity than studying. The least common activity across all three nations is relaxing whilst time spent sleeping is quite similar across all three.

Notably, Japanese students spend most of their day studying, accounting for 13 hours of their day with only 4 hours spent relaxing. In contrast, students in the UK and Germany have more similar looking days with less difference in their ranges. Similar to Japan, studying is the main activity for German students, totalling 9 hours.

Moreover, sleeping across all three is almost the same containing the lowest range of the categories, with students in the UK sleeping the most at 8.5 hours in contrast to 8 in Germany and 7 in Japan. The difference in range in the UK is only 1.5 and only 2 in Germany whereas the range in Japan is 9 hours.
