Typical weekday for students in three different countries

Student answer (Band 5.0)

Tis bar chart is all about the students in the top three Countries like UK , Japan and Germany. Typicaly about what they can do in his weekdays. Blue box is all about how much students sleep in a day. Moreover red for how much they studyed and and green for relaxing time for them.In the UK it's not that much diffrence at all this there sleeping time is 8 and a half hour more over 8 hour for studing and 7 hour for relaxing. In Japan more students spend there time when studing around 13 hours and normal time for sleeping like about 7 hours and least amount of relaxation time the spends only 4 hours. Furthere more technical country like Germany with good sleeping time and as well good studing time with managable relaxing time. It's an average of these countries about managing time for students in the weekday with sleeping, studing and relaxing.Best time managment by ranking in this is UK than Germany at the end Japan from my point view.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

The response addresses the main features of the bar chart, outlining the time spent on sleeping, studying, and relaxing in the UK, Japan, and Germany. However, some parts of the task are only partially addressed, and the information is presented with noticeable inaccuracies regarding the data. For instance, the student states that sleeping time in the UK is '8 and a half hour', which is correct, but misinterprets other figures or presents them vaguely, such as describing Germany with 'good sleeping time and as well good studing time'. Furthermore, the inclusion of personal opinions at the end ('from my point view') detracts from the objective reporting style required for academic tasks. The overview is overly simplistic and lacks a fully developed summary of the key trends shown in the visual data.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5

The response shows some basic organisation, beginning with an introduction to the chart and proceeding to discuss each country in turn. However, there is no clear overall progression, and the text lacks standard paragraphing, being presented as a single block of text. Cohesive devices are repetitive, mechanical, and occasionally inaccurate, relying heavily on connectors like 'Moreover', 'In the UK', 'In Japan', and 'Furthere more'. Pronoun referencing is also unclear at times, making it difficult to follow the logical links between ideas. For example, expressions like 'Tis bar chart is all about' and the abrupt transitions between countries disrupt the flow and fail to maintain a coherent progression throughout the response.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is limited and barely adequate for the task, with noticeable errors that occasionally cause difficulty for the reader. The student attempts some less common vocabulary related to the chart, such as 'relaxation time' and 'techincal country', but these are accompanied by frequent spelling mistakes ('Typicaly', 'studyed', 'diffrence', 'studing', 'Furthere', 'managamable', 'managment') and awkward word choices ('least amount of relaxation time the spends'). While the range is sufficient to convey the basic subject matter, the lexical control is weak, and spelling errors occur throughout the text, which impedes smooth communication.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

The writing demonstrates a very limited range of structures, consisting mostly of simple sentences alongside faulty attempts at complex forms. There are frequent grammatical errors in verb tenses, subject-verb agreement, prepositions, and article usage. Examples include 'Tis bar chart is all about the students', 'how much students sleep in a day. Moreover red for how much they studyed', and 'the spends only 4 hours'. Punctuation is also poorly handled, with missing apostrophes and run-on phrasing. These frequent errors persist throughout the response and can cause some difficulty for the reader, keeping the control of grammar at a basic level.
