Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.0
The response fails to meet the minimum length requirement of 150 words, standing at 149 words, which significantly limits the development of the task. The writer attempts to cover the three categories across the three countries, but the information is presented minimally and tangentially. For instance, some data points are inaccurate according to the chart, such as claiming Japan has a "2 percent of sleeping" rate or that Germany has "9 percent rate of study". There is no clear overview provided to summarize the main trends, leading to a fragmented report that only touches upon isolated figures rather than presenting a coherent summary of the visual data.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5
Information and ideas are not arranged coherently. The essay lacks proper paragraphing, as sentences are grouped haphazardly without a logical structure or introduction and conclusion. Cohesive devices are very basic or missing entirely, relying on repetitive and mechanical transitions such as "in the graph" and "also". There is no clear progression of ideas from one point to the next; instead, comparisons jump erratically between countries and activities, making the text difficult to follow and lacking overall flow.
Lexical Resource: Band 4.5
The vocabulary used is basic and repetitive, employing a very limited range of words that are insufficient for an academic task. Throughout the response, the writer repeatedly relies on simple terms like "rate", "percent", and basic verbs such as "has". There are noticeable lexical inaccuracies and awkward phrasing, such as referring to hours on the chart as percentages ("2 percent of sleeping", "8 percent in sleeping"). These vocabulary limitations and errors strain the reader and restrict the response to a lower band level.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
The grammatical range is very limited, consisting mainly of repetitive, simple sentence structures alongside faulty attempts at complex clauses. There are frequent errors in basic grammar, punctuation, and capitalization, such as lowercase starting letters at the beginning of sentences ("overall there is three countries"), missing subject-verb agreement ("there is three countries mention"), and run-on structures ("whereas Japan has 7 percent and when i am talking about relaxing, Germany has 7 percent of relaxing"). These persistent errors frequently strain meaning and impede clear communication.
