Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
The response addresses the prompt only partially, and it falls short of the minimum length requirement of 150 words by being 16 words under the limit. While you attempted to summarize the main features of the chart, such as mentioning that Japan recorded the highest figures in studying and the UK recorded the lowest, the overview is confused and contains factual inaccuracies. For instance, you stated that 'Germany recorded the highest number in studies, although the lowest figures by three nations in relaxing,' which contradicts the data since Japan actually had the highest for studying (13) and Japan had the lowest for relaxing (4). Furthermore, the ideas are limited and under-developed, lacking a comprehensive comparison across all three categories for each country.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
There is some basic organization with paragraphing used to separate the introduction, overall summary, and body details, but the response lacks a clear overall progression. Cohesive devices are sometimes inaccurate, repetitive, or poorly managed. For example, expressions like 'On the other hand' and 'In addition' are used mechanically rather than logically to guide the reader through the data comparisons. Referencing is also occasionally unclear, making it difficult to follow which country or category is being referenced in complex sentences. To improve, you need to ensure that every sentence builds logically on the previous one and that cohesive links are used accurately to show relationships between data points.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
Your vocabulary is limited and minimally adequate for the task. You rely on basic and repetitive terms such as 'highest number,' 'lowest number,' 'figures,' and 'values' throughout the response. There are also noticeable errors in word choice, form, and collocation that occasionally cause difficulty for the reader, such as 'mojaority' (spelling error for majority), 'leasr' (spelling error for least), and awkward phrasing like 'the lowest figures by three nations in relaxing.' To reach a higher band, you need to use a wider range of vocabulary, including synonyms and less common lexical items related to data reporting, while ensuring accurate spelling and word forms.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The response demonstrates a limited range of sentence structures, relying mostly on simple or faulty complex sentences. There are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with articles, prepositions, and sentence boundaries. For example, you missed necessary articles ('in UK' instead of 'in the UK') and constructed run-on, confusing sentences like 'the highest value at 13 for Japan in studies and 7 figures recorded for sleeping also in relaxing japan recorded the leasr at 4.' These frequent errors can cause difficulty for the reader. To improve, you should focus on mastering basic sentence construction, using correct prepositions, and ensuring subject-verb agreement while attempting a greater variety of error-free complex structures.
