Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
The response addresses the task partially, attempting to summarise the main features of the chart, but it misinterprets the units of data as percentages (e.g., writing '8.5%' instead of hours). While there is an attempt to give an overview and make basic comparisons, some of the information is inadequately developed or inaccurate regarding the actual values shown in the stimulus. To reach a higher level, the response would need to accurately report the data without misinterpreting the metric and provide a more fully developed, comprehensive overview of all key trends and comparisons.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response has some basic organisation with paragraph breaks and introductory and concluding remarks, but it lacks a clear overall progression. Cohesive devices are sometimes mechanical or repetitive, such as the frequent use of 'Firstly', 'While', and 'Also'. Paragraphing is attempted, but the grouping of ideas is somewhat confused, particularly in the body paragraphs where comparisons between countries are jumbled together. To improve, the writer should ensure a more logical sequence of information and use a wider variety of cohesive devices more naturally to guide the reader smoothly through the comparisons.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
The vocabulary used is minimally adequate for the task, with simple terms like 'displays', 'weekday routine', and 'highest'. However, there are noticeable lexical errors and awkward phrasing, such as 'their relaxing time is very low' and 'their relaxing time accounts only 4%', as well as word form and collocation issues like 'there relaxing time' instead of 'their relaxing time' and 'spent 7% in sleeping'. To achieve a higher band, the writer needs to demonstrate a wider range of vocabulary, use less common lexical items with greater precision, and eliminate word-choice errors that affect the natural flow of the text.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The response employs a limited range of sentence structures, relying mostly on simple and repetitive complex forms. There are frequent grammatical and punctuation errors throughout the text, including incorrect prepositions ('spend less time in relaxing'), awkward article use ('in the weekday'), and agreement issues ('the percentage is decreased'). Attempts at complex sentences often result in faulty structures. To move up, the writer must demonstrate better control over a wider variety of grammatical structures and significantly reduce the frequency of errors to ensure clearer communication.
