Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
The response attempts to address the prompt by summarising the bar chart, but the information reported is often confused, imprecise, and difficult to follow. For example, phrases like 'the UK is popular for sleeping week days and is recorded 8.5' misinterpret the visual data and fail to report the main features accurately. While there is an attempt at an overview, it relies on vague and inaccurate descriptions such as 'the most volatile week days are in Japan with a noticable highest trend'. Key figures and comparisons between the three countries are either omitted or inaccurately rendered, leading to an underdeveloped response that only partially satisfies the requirements of the task.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The essay displays some basic organisation with an introduction, an overview paragraph, and separate body paragraphs for details. However, there is a lack of clear overall progression, and the logical relationship between ideas is frequently obscured by awkward phrasing. Cohesive devices are used mechanically or inaccurately, such as the repetitive use of 'week days' and abrupt transitions like 'In more detail' and 'A different pattern is spotted'. Paragraphing is attempted, but the internal cohesion within paragraphs is weak, making it hard for the reader to follow the intended comparisons smoothly.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
The vocabulary used is limited and repetitive, with frequent awkward word choices and unnatural collocations that occasionally impede communication. Expressions such as 'standard week days', 'volatile week days', and 'sleeping week days drop downs' demonstrate an inadequate grasp of precise terminology related to statistical data. There are also noticeable spelling and word-form inaccuracies, such as 'noticable' instead of 'noticeable' and 'dissimilar nations' where 'different' or 'respective' would be more appropriate. The range is minimally adequate for the task but lacks the flexibility needed for higher bands.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
There is a very limited range of sentence structures, and attempts at more complex sentences are frequently faulty. Frequent grammatical errors occur throughout the text, including subject-verb agreement issues ('The following chart exhibit'), incorrect prepositions, and missing articles. For instance, sentences like 'A different pattern is spotted with a difference of a rise one per day in Germany among all the three division' contain multiple structural errors and awkward modifiers. These frequent errors cause some difficulty for the reader and reflect a weak control of basic and complex grammatical forms.
