Typical weekday for students in three different countries

Student answer (Band 8.0)

The bar chart compares how students in the UK, Japan, and Germany divide a typical 24-hour weekday among three daily activities: sleeping, studying, and relaxing.

Overall, Japanese students allocate by far the largest proportion of their day to studying, whereas students in the UK and Germany maintain a much more balanced distribution of time across all three activities. Additionally, students in the UK and Germany enjoy significantly more leisure time than their counterparts in Japan.

Regarding academic commitments, Japanese students spend 13 hours per weekday studying—more than double the time they spend sleeping (7 hours) or relaxing (4 hours). In contrast, studying accounts for 9 hours of a German student's day and 8 hours for a student in the UK.

In terms of sleep and relaxation, UK students register the highest amount of rest at 8.5 hours per night, slightly ahead of German students at 8 hours and Japanese students at 7 hours. Meanwhile, students in both the UK and Germany spend an identical 7 hours relaxing per day, whereas Japanese students spend the least amount of time on leisure, at just 4 hours.
