Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.0
The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 150 words, as it contains only 88 words. Consequently, the response addresses the task only minimally. While you attempted to highlight key features from the chart—such as studying hours in Japan and sleeping figures in the UK—the information is restricted to a single, underdeveloped paragraph. To reach a higher level, you must fully develop all parts of the prompt with an extended overview and detailed comparisons supported by accurate data from the graph, while consistently meeting the required word count.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
There is some basic organisation with an introductory sentence and an overall summary statement. However, the response lacks a clear overall progression because all information is compressed into a single paragraph without appropriate paragraphing. Cohesive devices are minimal and somewhat repetitive, relying on basic transitions like 'Overall' and 'Additionally'. To improve coherence and cohesion, you should group your ideas into logical paragraphs—such as separating the overview from the body details—and employ a wider variety of cohesive devices to smoothly link your sentences and comparisons.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
The vocabulary used is minimally adequate for the task, allowing you to convey basic points about the chart. You attempted some less common vocabulary such as 'distribution allocated' and 'constitutes majority portion', but these phrases contain awkward word choices and collocation errors. There are also issues with missing prepositions and punctuation, such as 'individuals of UK'. To elevate your lexical resource, you should focus on using more precise vocabulary and natural collocations, while ensuring your word forms and spelling are accurate to avoid hindering communication.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You demonstrated a limited range of sentence structures, relying primarily on simple statements with occasional attempts at modification. There are noticeable errors in tense usage, such as 'The graph typically illustrated', as well as missing articles before country names like 'the UK' and 'Japan'. Punctuation errors also occur, such as missing spaces after commas. To progress, you need to incorporate a wider variety of complex sentence forms with better control over grammar, articles, and punctuation, ensuring that your sentences remain clear and largely error-free.
