Student answer (Band 5.0)
in the given bar chart we see shecdule of sleeping studying and relexing from three different countrys united kingdom japan and germany so the ratio of uk in sleeping is too high its 8.5 and they do 8 hour study and 7 hours relaxing. while in japan the ratio is study is high from other two countrys they do 13 hours study and they sleep little then uk they sleep 7 hours and the relaxaing is too low because they do hard work on there study that why they relax 4 hours. if we talk about germany the ratio of there the shecdule of germany because they balance all three they do 8 hours sleeping and 9 hours study and 7 hours relaxing so if i talk about all three country the japan study ratio is too high while other two country have almost balance in the side of germany

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
The response addresses the task partially, attempting to present the main features of the chart, such as the UK spending 8.5 hours sleeping, Japan studying for 13 hours, and Germany balancing all three categories. However, the information is presented as a list of disconnected facts with limited extension. The position is not always clearly stated, and some interpretations—such as explaining why Japanese students relax for 4 hours ('because they do hard work on there study')—rely on assumption rather than strictly reporting the data provided. To move to a higher band, the student needs to select and compare the main trends more effectively without introducing outside speculation, and ensure all key data points are supported by clear comparisons.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5
The response shows some organisation, but there is no clear overall progression or logical structure. The entire text consists of a single, run-on paragraph with no division into an introduction, body paragraphs, or a conclusion. Cohesive devices are extremely limited and repetitive, relying heavily on simple conjunctions like 'and' and 'while', alongside repetitive transitional phrases such as 'if we talk about'. Referencing is also occasionally unclear, making the flow difficult to follow. To improve, the writer must divide the response into logical paragraphs and use a wider, more accurate range of cohesive devices to guide the reader smoothly through the comparisons.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is limited and minimally adequate for the task. There are several spelling and word-choice errors, such as 'shecdule' instead of 'schedule', 'relexing' instead of 'relaxing', 'countrys' instead of 'countries', and 'there' instead of 'their'. While the student attempts to use topic-specific vocabulary related to the chart categories, the repetitive use of basic words like 'ratio' and 'study' restricts the range. These lexical errors do not completely impede communication, but they are noticeable and detract from the overall quality. To achieve a higher band, the student should expand their vocabulary range, use less common synonyms with greater precision, and check spelling carefully.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The response demonstrates a very limited range of sentence structures, primarily consisting of run-on simple sentences joined by coordinating conjunctions like 'and' and 'while'. There is a complete lack of punctuation, with no periods or commas to separate clauses, resulting in one long, continuous sentence. Frequent grammatical errors occur throughout the text, including subject-verb agreement issues ('the ratio of uk in sleeping is') and missing articles or prepositions. These errors require the reader to slow down and interpret the intended meaning. To progress, the writer needs to incorporate a mix of simple and complex sentences, apply correct punctuation rules, and improve grammatical accuracy across basic structures.
