Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
The response partially addresses the task requirements by identifying some of the main features, such as Japan having the highest studying figure at 13 percent and the lowest relaxing figure at 4 percent. However, there are some inaccuracies in reporting the data, such as referring to the figures as percentages rather than hours. Furthermore, the length requirement is not met, as the response contains only 145 words, falling short of the 150-word minimum, with 8 words copied directly from the prompt not counting towards the total. The overview is overly simplistic, and some comparisons lack full development, which keeps the score at this level.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response presents some organization with an introduction, body details, and a conclusion, but there is no clear overall progression throughout the text. Paragraphing is attempted, but the grouping of ideas feels somewhat disjointed. Cohesive devices are used, but they tend to be repetitive and mechanical, such as the frequent reliance on 'Moreover' and 'In conclusion'. Referencing is occasionally unclear, as seen with phrases like 'These comparison shows the Japan is hardworking country', which disrupts the logical flow between sentences and paragraphs.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is limited and minimally adequate for the task, featuring basic terms such as 'largest bar', 'lowest bar', and 'high rate'. There are noticeable lexical errors and awkward word choices, such as 'the japan is high rate in study as compare to both countries' and 'round about 8 percent is bit lower', which cause some difficulty for the reader. The range of vocabulary lacks flexibility, and attempts at less common items are hindered by inaccuracies in word form and collocation.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The response displays a limited range of sentence structures, relying mostly on simple sentences with occasional faulty attempts at complex forms. There are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text, including missing articles ('in Uk', 'in japan'), incorrect prepositions ('in study as compare to'), and subject-verb agreement issues ('These comparison shows'). Punctuation and phrasing errors are frequent enough to cause some difficulty and strain for the reader, reflecting basic control over grammar.
