Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

The response addresses the task only partially. While it attempts to report the main features from the chart, such as the time spent sleeping, studying, and relaxing across the three countries, the data is inaccurately reported in several places. For instance, the prompt notes that Japan's studying figure is 13, yet the student's overview and body paragraphs contain confusion regarding weekdays versus weekends and misread values. Furthermore, some key comparisons are missing or unclear, and the overall summary is limited and under-developed. To reach a higher level, the response must accurately report the data without misinterpretations and provide a clearer overview of the main trends shown in the chart.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

There is some basic organisation with the use of transitional phrases like 'To begin with', 'secondly', and 'Finally', but there is no clear overall progression. The paragraphing is fragmented, breaking thoughts into very short, disjointed sections. Cohesive devices are repetitive and sometimes inaccurate, such as 'for the the both' and 'the last thing is studying that show 8'. Referencing is also occasionally unclear, making it difficult to follow the logical flow of ideas. To improve, the student needs to structure the response into coherent paragraphs with smoother transitions and ensure that ideas flow logically from one point to the next.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is limited and barely adequate for the task. There are noticeable errors in word choice and spelling throughout the text, such as 'hree' instead of 'three', 'studing' instead of 'studying', 'approximatley', 'cosume', 'magor', and 'difrrenece'. These errors stem from basic spelling mistakes and imprecise word choices. The range of vocabulary is restricted, relying heavily on repetitive terms related to the prompt. To achieve a higher band, the student must expand their lexical range by using less common vocabulary accurately and pay closer attention to correct spelling and word forms.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

The response displays a very limited range of structures, with frequent basic errors that cause difficulty for the reader. Attempts at complex sentences are generally faulty, as seen in awkward phrasing like 'To begin with the UK and Germany students who spends approximatley same time on sleeping'. There are frequent errors in subject-verb agreement ('students who spends', 'Germany is...'), article usage, and prepositions. Punctuation is also problematic, with missing periods and run-on sentences. To improve, the student needs to work on mastering basic sentence construction, ensuring subject-verb agreement, and reducing the frequency of grammatical errors.
