Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 8.0
The response covers all parts of the task well, providing a clear overview and highlighting the main features of the data with relevant comparisons. You accurately selected the most prominent data points, such as Japan's significant 13 hours spent on studying and the UK's high sleeping hours, and effectively summarised the information without omitting any key categories. The comparison between the three countries is well structured, demonstrating a strong understanding of the chart. To reach the highest band, your overview could integrate slightly more synthesis of the overarching trends rather than just stating individual category extremes, though the current coverage is already comprehensive and well developed for this level.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.5
Your response displays a clear logical organisation and progression throughout. You begin with a helpful introduction defining the scope of the chart, follow with a clear overview paragraph, structure the body paragraphs logically by category (sleep, study, relax), and finish with a concise concluding summary. Cohesive devices are used flexibly, such as 'Regarding sleep', 'In case of studying', and 'Lastly', which help guide the reader smoothly through the comparison. Paragraphing is used appropriately and effectively. To achieve an even higher level, you could ensure that cohesive links between sentences are entirely seamless and avoid any slight mechanical feel in how the body paragraphs transition.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary suitable for the task, successfully attempting less common items and functional phrases such as 'categorized into', 'significantly higher', and 'prioritized'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice, such as 'spent most of their time in weekday studying' (where 'on studying' or 'weekdays' would be more natural), and a minor spelling slip in 'Japananese'. These errors do not impede communication, but they prevent the score from moving into a higher band where a wider range of sophisticated vocabulary is used with greater precision and fluency. Expanding your repertoire of academic collocations will help elevate this criterion.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 7.0
You use a good mix of simple and complex sentence forms with generally good control of grammar and punctuation. Sentences such as 'Regarding sleep, the students in UK spent about 8.5 hours, which was the highest...' demonstrate your ability to form complex structures effectively. There are some minor grammatical errors, such as missing articles ('the students in UK' instead of 'in the UK') and slight prepositional awkwardness ('spent their time in weekday'), but these errors are infrequent and rarely impede communication. To push towards the next level, ensure consistent accuracy with articles and prepositions in complex grammatical patterns.
