Typical weekday for students in three different countries

Student answer (Band 5.5)

in this bar chart we can see compare how students spend their time everyday in three different country: uk, japan and germany. this bar chart shows how many hours students spent everyday at sleeping, sudying and relaxing. We can see that students in japan are studyng the most everyday and they are only relaxing 4 hours, if we compare other country we see that there is an important difference, germany and uk study only eight to nine hours a day. The time of relax is also different, uk and germany are relaxing more than the students of japan. Instead the time of sleeping is quite similar of evey country, in uk and germany they speep more than japan but not a lot more. in conclusion this chart shows us that japanise students spend more time studying. The other students' time is more balanced respect to the japan, is more similar

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

You identify the chart’s main message: Japanese students study the most, while their relaxing time is lower than that of students in the UK and Germany. You also make relevant comparisons, noting that sleeping time is broadly similar and that UK and German students relax more. These points match the data. However, the response gives few precise figures, even though the chart shows 13 hours of study in Japan compared with 8 in the UK and 9 in Germany, and 4 hours of relaxation in Japan versus 7 in both other countries. The overview is relevant, but the claim that the other students’ time is “more balanced” is not clearly explained. Include key figures and clarify this comparison to develop the report more fully.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The response has a recognisable progression: it introduces the chart, compares studying and relaxing, then comments on sleeping and gives a concluding summary. Linking phrases such as “if we compare” and “in conclusion” help show how the ideas relate. However, the information is presented as one continuous paragraph, and several comparisons run together in long sentences. “Instead” does not clearly signal the contrast intended, while “The other students’ time is more balanced respect to the japan” is difficult to follow. Organise the report into an introduction, an overview, and one or two comparison paragraphs. Use clear links such as “By contrast” and “Meanwhile,” and make each sentence focus on a specific comparison.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use relevant vocabulary for describing the chart, including “spend their time,” “studying,” “relaxing,” “sleeping,” “difference,” and “similar.” This is enough to communicate the main comparisons, but the range is limited and some expressions are inaccurate or repetitive. For example, “the time of relax” is not a natural phrase, and “studyng,” “evey,” “speep,” and “japanise” contain spelling errors. “Everyday” is also used where “every day” is intended. Aim for more precise chart language, such as “hours spent studying” and “relaxation time,” and check spelling carefully. Vary repeated wording by using “students in the two countries” or “their counterparts” where appropriate.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple statements and longer comparisons, for example, “if we compare other country we see that…” This shows an effort to connect ideas, but the sentence structures are often inaccurate, and the range remains limited. Examples include “in three different country,” “students in japan are studyng,” and “germany and uk study only eight to nine hours,” where articles, plurals, or verb forms are needed. The final sentence, “The other students’ time is more balanced respect to the japan, is more similar,” contains an unclear structure and lacks a clear grammatical connection between its clauses. Practise accurate comparison patterns, such as “Students in the UK and Germany spend more time relaxing than those in Japan,” and use full stops to separate complete ideas.
