Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
You identify the main categories and include several accurate figures, such as Japan’s 13 hours of studying and 4 hours of relaxing, and Germany’s 9 hours of studying. However, the overview is not consistently supported by the chart: studying is not the highest category in the UK, where sleeping is 8.5 hours compared with 8 for studying, and relaxing is not the lowest in Germany, where it is 7 hours versus 8 for sleeping. The claim that studying follows an upward trend also misrepresents comparisons between countries. To strengthen the response, give a precise overview of the main contrasts and report each country’s figures accurately, avoiding repeated or contradictory summaries.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The response has a recognisable structure, with an overview followed by country-by-country details, and phrases such as “Meanwhile” and “Turning to Germany” help signal transitions. However, progression is weakened by repetition: the final paragraph restates the claim that studying is highest and relaxing lowest, even though this conflicts with the UK and Germany data. Some links are also awkward or incomplete, such as “In detail, Uk the most typical students do…” and “Looking in the chart.” Organise the body around clear comparisons, and use linking expressions to show accurate relationships rather than simply adding another summary. This would make the information easier to follow.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use relevant task vocabulary, including “illustrates,” “followed by,” “highest figure,” and “category,” so the reader can generally understand the intended comparisons. However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations are inaccurate or repetitive. “Typical weekend” is used even though the task concerns a weekday, while “the most highest value” and “the most typical students do” are unnatural. There are also spelling errors such as “exprienced” and “stuying,” and country references are repeated rather than varied. Aim for precise chart language such as “recorded,” “accounted for,” and “the figure for,” and check spelling and natural phrasing before finishing.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt a mixture of simple statements and longer structures, including “whereas relaxing remained the lowest” and “Turning to Germany…,” but control is uneven. Errors in sentence construction and verb forms appear in phrases such as “sleeping showed relatively stable” and “In detail, Uk the most typical students do…”. The sentence beginning “While it is followed by second highest value…” is also incomplete, and punctuation is inconsistent, as in “Additionally, while.” These problems sometimes make relationships between figures difficult to interpret. Practise forming complete comparative sentences with a clear subject and verb, for example, “In the UK, sleeping was the largest category, at 8.5 hours.”
