The bar chart shows the typical weekday for students in three different countries.
Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.
Student answer (Band 5.0)
The bar chart illustrates the typical weekday of students by conducting survey of three countries.
According to the chart, Japan had the highest ratio students studying than relaxing or sleeping.
While in Germany and UK students were either sleeping or relaxing on weekends.
The ratio of students relaxing in Germany and UK was equal with number 7. But Japan had the least number with only 4%.
As, Japan had the most significant number of studying pupils and scaled on 13 number. While Germany stood at second with 9 and UK slightly low with rank 8.
UK ranked highest in terms of sleeping scholars with 8.5 number. While Germany slightly varied with number 8. In contrast, Japan had the lowest number with 7 second highest country with 8th number.
The finding revealed that Japan had the most people studying. UK with most people sleeping.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5
You identify several relevant comparisons, including Japan’s highest study figure (13), its lowest relaxation figure (4), and the equal relaxation figures for the UK and Germany (7). However, the response only partially summarises the chart: it lacks a clear, accurate overview of the main pattern across all three activities, and some comparisons are unclear or inaccurate. For example, “the highest ratio students studying than relaxing or sleeping” is not expressed clearly, and “students were either sleeping or relaxing on weekends” introduces weekends, which the chart does not show. The final finding repeats earlier points rather than adding a useful summary. The response is also 143 words, below the required 150. Develop a concise overview and report the figures with clear comparisons.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5
The response has a basic sequence: it introduces the chart, discusses relaxation, then studying and sleeping, and ends with a finding. This gives the reader some sense of organisation. However, progression is weak because the final sentence repeats information already stated, and several sentences begin with “While” or “As” without forming complete, well-connected ideas. For instance, “While in Germany and UK students were either sleeping or relaxing on weekends” is disconnected from the following comparison and does not accurately frame the data. The paragraphing also does little to group the information. Organise the report into an introduction, an overview, and focused comparisons, using linking words only where they clarify the relationship between figures.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use some task-related vocabulary, such as “illustrates,” “relaxing,” “studying,” and “ranked highest,” and the reader can generally identify the activities being compared. However, the range is limited and several choices are inaccurate or unnatural for describing chart data. “Ratio” is repeatedly used where “number of hours” or “figure” is intended, while “13 number” and “8.5 number” are awkward. “Scholars” and “pupils” also do not fit naturally here; the chart concerns students’ time use, not their status as scholars. Aim for precise, consistent terms such as “hours spent studying” and “the figure for sleeping,” and avoid switching between “ratio,” “number,” and “people” when the chart reports time.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt some sentence variety, including comparisons introduced with “While” and “In contrast,” but the range is limited and these structures are often incomplete or faulty. For example, “While Germany stood at second with 9 and UK slightly low with rank 8” lacks a complete clause, and “As, Japan had the most significant number…” is not a correctly formed sentence. There are also errors with articles and sentence construction in “by conducting survey” and “the highest ratio students studying.” These problems sometimes make relationships between the figures difficult to follow. Practise writing complete subject–verb clauses, especially when comparing countries, and check articles and punctuation. A clear pattern such as “Germany recorded 9 hours, compared with 8 in the UK” would improve accuracy.
