Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 3.0

The response makes a limited attempt to describe the UK, and the statement that students sleep for around eight hours is broadly consistent with the chart’s 8.5 hours. However, it does not summarise the chart as a whole: Japan and Germany are omitted, and there is no comparison of sleeping, studying and relaxing across the three countries. The claim that UK universities focus on practical learning and critical thinking is not shown by the chart, so it does not support the task. The response is also substantially below the required 150 words. To improve, report the main contrasts—for example, Japan has the most study time, while its relaxing time is lowest—and include accurate figures for all three countries.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.0

There is a basic attempt to introduce the topic with “first of all” and then focus on the UK, so the reader can identify the intended subject. However, the response has no clear overall progression from an overview to comparisons and supporting details, and it ends without a conclusion or a complete summary. The repeated phrase “in the UK” does not help connect distinct points, while the second sentence shifts to university teaching practices rather than chart information. Organise the report into a brief overview followed by logically grouped comparisons, such as study hours first and sleep and relaxation next. Use linking phrases only where they clarify how the figures relate.

Lexical Resource: Band 4.5

The response uses a small set of relevant everyday terms, including “sleep,” “study” and “health,” and “around” appropriately signals an approximate figure. However, the vocabulary is limited and several choices or forms make the meaning unclear, such as “peoples,” “focuse” and “many university are focuses.” “Practical learning and critical thinking” is understandable but is not relevant to the chart. For this task, use precise terms for reporting data, such as “hours,” “spend,” “the highest” and “the lowest,” and vary the wording for the three activities. Check spelling and word forms, and avoid adding claims that the visual does not provide.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

The response attempts simple statements, but control of sentence structure and basic grammar is inconsistent. For example, “the uk is peoples is focuse 9n his health” contains several problems with sentence construction, agreement and pronoun reference, making the intended meaning difficult to follow. In “the study is very important part,” the article is missing, and “many university are focuses” has errors in number and verb form. Most sentences are joined without clear punctuation or sentence boundaries. Practise accurate simple patterns first, such as “Students in the UK sleep for about 8.5 hours,” then combine related comparisons using “while” or “whereas.” This would make the report clearer and allow more varied structures.
