Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

You report the main figures for all three countries accurately: for example, Japan’s study time is 13, compared with 9 in Germany and 8 in the UK, and you identify that UK and German students relax for 7 hours. These comparisons show a relevant understanding of the chart. However, the response does not establish a clear, concise overview of the main patterns, and some claims are unsupported or inaccurate. In particular, the chart does not show that Japanese students are “very hard working” because of technology, or that UK students enjoy sleeping. The repeated rankings also take space without adding much analysis. Focus on the chart’s key contrasts and avoid explanations or opinions that the data cannot support.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.0

The response contains relevant information and attempts to group it by country, then compare the results. However, the progression is difficult to follow because the country-by-country reporting is followed by several overlapping summaries and rankings. Phrases such as “Now let we collect to it” and “the all chart often is” do not clearly signal how the next point relates to the previous one. The numbered list at the beginning also does not help organise the report. Use a clear structure: an introduction, an overview of the main contrasts, and one or two paragraphs comparing the figures. Avoid repeating the same rankings, and use straightforward links such as “By contrast” or “Similarly” where they clarify comparisons.

Lexical Resource: Band 4.5

You use some task-relevant vocabulary, including “studying,” “sleeping,” “relaxing,” and “highest,” so the reader can identify the chart categories and some comparisons. However, the range is limited and several words are repeatedly misspelled or used in unnatural combinations, such as “heighst line,” “in study,” and “relaxing mode.” These errors sometimes make the intended meaning harder to follow. The response also uses informal or unsupported expressions such as “very hard working” rather than precise chart language. Build a small set of accurate terms for describing amounts and comparisons, and check spelling carefully. For example, use “hours spent studying” and “the highest figure” instead of the less natural phrases in the response.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

You attempt both simple statements and longer comparisons, but sentence structures are limited and errors are frequent. For example, “There are three different chart shows” combines incompatible structures, while “the UK student are heigh in sleeping” has problems with agreement and sentence formation. Missing or incorrect articles and verb forms also appear in “the Japan student are” and “Now let we collect to it.” These errors can make relationships between ideas difficult to understand, especially in the longer sentences. Practise building accurate basic sentences first, such as “UK students sleep for 8.5 hours,” then combine them with controlled comparisons using “whereas” or “while.” Check subject–verb agreement and use consistent plural forms for students.
