Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.0
You report several figures accurately: sleeping is shown as 8.5 hours in the UK, 7 in Japan and 8 in Germany; Japan has the highest study figure at 13, and relaxing is 7 in the UK and Germany versus 4 in Japan. However, the response omits a clear overview and does not explain the main contrast that Japan allocates much more time to studying while less time to relaxing. It also repeatedly calls the figures percentages, although the chart presents hours in a typical weekday. The response is substantially below the required 150 words, leaving the summary too limited to cover the chart adequately. Add an overview, identify the units correctly, and compare all three activities more fully.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response has a basic sequence: it describes sleeping, then studying, and finally relaxing. Linking expressions such as “Moreover” and “Furthermore” help signal movement between points, and the reader can generally follow the comparisons. However, the ideas are presented as a short list rather than a developed summary, with no separate overview to establish the main pattern. The repeated opening structure “In UK” and “In Germany” also makes the progression mechanical, while “if we see relaxing” is an awkward transition. Organise the report into a brief introduction, an overview, and grouped detail paragraphs, using comparisons to connect related figures rather than relying mainly on additive linkers.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use a small set of relevant terms, including “highest,” “lower,” “same” and “least,” which allows you to make basic comparisons. The vocabulary is nevertheless repetitive and sometimes imprecise for describing a bar chart. In particular, “percentage” is used for values that represent hours, and “students prefer sleeping” suggests a preference rather than time spent on an activity. Phrases such as “the chart shows” and “the bar shows” recur without much variation. Use accurate chart language such as “hours spent,” “time devoted to” and “stood at,” and vary comparison phrases. This would make the description more precise and natural while retaining clear, accessible wording.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
Most sentences communicate a basic comparison, and you attempt to combine ideas with clauses, as in “In Germany, the bar shows 9% which is higher than UK but lower than Japan.” However, the range is narrow, relying mainly on simple statements and repeated sentence patterns. There are also errors in agreement and article use: “UK and Germany shows” should use a plural verb, and country references need forms such as “the UK” and “in the UK.” The sentence beginning “if we see relaxing” is also not well formed for this report. Practise accurate comparative clauses and varied structures, checking subject–verb agreement and articles as you revise.
