Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

You identify the main contrast: Japan records the most study time and the least relaxation, while the UK and Germany have relatively similar figures. Several figures are included, but the UK values are misreported: the chart shows 8.5 hours sleeping, 8 studying and 7 relaxing, whereas you give “8,5, 7, 8.” The final claim that UK students “prefer to sleep more” is also not a clear comparison, since their sleeping time is only slightly higher than Germany’s and Japan’s. The response is 121 words, below the required 150, which limits how fully you can report and compare the data. Add a concise overview and accurately compare the three activities across all countries.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a basic structure: an introduction, an overview, and a paragraph describing the countries, followed by a brief summary. This helps the reader identify the topic and the main point about Japan. However, progression is limited because the country-by-country details are compressed into one long paragraph, and the concluding “To same up” repeats an earlier point rather than adding a useful comparison. Linking words such as “However” and “while” are attempted, but punctuation and sentence boundaries make their relationships unclear. For example, “the lowest one . while germany” begins a new sentence incorrectly. Organise the details into clearer comparisons, use paragraph breaks, and connect each comparison accurately to improve the flow.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use some relevant task vocabulary, including “studying,” “sleeping,” “relaxing,” “highest,” and “lowest,” so the reader can understand the broad subject and comparisons. However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations are inaccurate, such as “the figure provides,” “a same case,” and “a balance between” for figures that are not equal. Spelling errors—including “nember,” “studing,” “wheras,” and “prefere”—are noticeable and reduce clarity. Use precise chart language such as “hours spent studying” and “the figure for relaxation,” and check spelling carefully. More varied, accurate comparison phrases would help you describe similarities and differences without relying repeatedly on “highest” and “lowest.”

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and more extended sentences, including a comparison with “However” and a clause beginning “while Germany shows…”. However, control is inconsistent, and errors often make the sentences difficult to follow. The opening needs an article and clearer punctuation: “The bar chart provides data about a typical weekday for students in three countries: the UK, Japan and Germany.” In “Japan had the highest number of hours studying comparing to two other countries,” the comparison structure is faulty. Sentence boundaries and capitalization are also problematic, as in “the lowest one . while germany.” Practise accurate comparative structures, articles, and punctuation, and divide long sentences into manageable units.
