Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
You identify the main contrast: Japanese students spend the most time studying, while their relaxing time is the lowest. You also report the key figures for all three countries, and the comparison that Japan leads in studying and the UK in sleeping is supported by the chart. However, the overview is unclear (“the others activites is lowest in others country”), and the claim that Germany is the “second higest country” does not specify which activity; Germany is second for studying, but not for sleeping or relaxing. The response is also below the required 150 words: it contains 131 words, with 13 copied from the prompt excluded. Add a clearer overview and compare the three activities systematically.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response has a basic structure, moving from an opening statement to an overview and then country-by-country details. This gives the reader some organisation, and phrases such as “on the other hand” and “for example” show an attempt to connect ideas. However, progression is not consistently clear: the overview is difficult to interpret, and the final sentence repeats comparisons already made rather than adding a distinct summary. Several long sentences join multiple figures and ideas without clear punctuation, making relationships harder to follow. Use separate paragraphs for the overview and grouped comparisons, and connect each comparison explicitly—for example, contrast studying across all three countries before discussing sleeping and relaxing.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use relevant task vocabulary, including “studying,” “sleeping,” “relaxing,” and “around,” so the reader can generally identify the chart categories and approximate values. However, the range is limited and several word-choice, spelling, and collocation errors make parts difficult to understand. Examples include “others activites,” “secound higest country,” “for instand,” and “higest for studying perpose.” The repeated use of “around” and “students” also makes the description less precise. Build a small set of accurate chart-reporting phrases, such as “spent approximately,” “recorded the highest figure,” and “by comparison,” and check spelling and word forms before submitting.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple statements and longer comparisons, but the range of sentence structures is limited, and errors are frequent enough to make some sentences difficult to follow. For example, “overall, the japan students are studying at around 13 hours” has problems with article use and sentence construction, while “this state students sleeping aroud 8 hours” lacks a clear grammatical structure. The final sentence, “i can be see the bar charts three countries are higest,” is also difficult to interpret because the verb pattern and clause structure are faulty. Practise forming complete sentences with a clear subject and verb, and use consistent past or present forms. Capitalise sentence openings and country names, and use full stops to separate comparisons.
