Typical weekday for students in three different countries

Student answer (Band 5.0)

The bar chart provides the information about activites done by students on a substantial weekday in UK, Japan and Germany.

Overall, In Japan the more number of students are identified studying, while least amount of them reported relaxing on a difficult weekday while comparing UK ang Germany. Whereas Sleeping is often Higher in UK.

Admittedly, in all three countries most of the students are identified as they spend less time on relaxing like UK and Germany were had 7 hours and Japanese scholars had the least time spent on relaxing. Whereas, in Studying category Japan ranked first among the given countries with average of 13 hours spent on studying. Followed by students of Germany with 9 hours and UK with 8 hours of studying time.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

You identify the main contrast that Japan records the most study time and the least relaxation, and you give several accurate figures: 13 hours for Japanese students studying, 9 for Germany, 8 for the UK, and 7 hours of relaxation in the UK and Germany. However, the response only partially covers the chart. The overview is unclear, and the final sentence about sleeping is cut off, so the comparison is not completed; the chart shows 8.5 hours in the UK, 7 in Japan and 8 in Germany. Also, the chart reports hours spent, not numbers of students, and “a difficult weekday” is not supported by the data. The response is 10 words below the required minimum. Include a complete overview and report the key comparisons accurately.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

There is some organisation: an opening statement is followed by an overview and then details about relaxing and studying. The figures for studying are presented in a sensible order, which helps the reader compare the countries. However, progression is weakened by unclear or inaccurate linking, such as “Whereas Sleeping is often Higher in UK,” and the paragraph beginning “Admittedly” combines several points without a clear structure. The final sentence is unfinished (“than Japan and Germany whe”), leaving the sleeping comparison incomplete and disrupting the ending. Use separate, focused paragraphs for the overview and key details, and connect comparisons directly—for example, contrast the three sleeping figures in one complete sentence.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You attempt a range of vocabulary, including “ranked first,” “average,” and “category,” and the reader can generally understand the intended comparisons. However, several choices are inaccurate or unnatural for describing a chart. “Activities done” is vague, “substantial weekday” does not convey a typical day, and “difficult weekday” adds an unsupported meaning. Phrases such as “the more number of students” and “a lot of students” confuse the number of people with the hours shown. There is also a spelling error in “activites.” Aim for precise chart language such as “hours spent,” “recorded,” and “the highest figure,” and check spelling and collocations before submitting.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple statements and longer comparative structures, but control is inconsistent, and errors sometimes make the meaning difficult to follow. For example, “In Japan the more number of students are identified studying” has faulty comparison and sentence structure, while “UK and Germany were had 7 hours” uses an incorrect verb form. Articles and agreement are also problematic in “in UK” and “the least time spent.” Capitalisation after “Overall” and within “Higher” is inconsistent, and the final sentence is incomplete. Practise clear patterns such as “Students in Japan spent 13 hours studying” and “The UK figure was higher than Japan’s,” then check each sentence for a complete verb structure and accurate punctuation.
