Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
You identify the main contrast that Japan devotes the most time to studying, and you include several relevant figures, such as 13 hours of study in Japan and 8 hours of sleep in Germany. However, the overview is unclear and partly inaccurate: Japan does not have the highest overall number across all activities, and the UK and Germany are not similar in every category (UK sleep is 8.5 hours versus Germany’s 8). Some comparisons are also missing, particularly that Japan has the least relaxing time and the UK and Germany both record 7 hours for relaxation. Develop a concise, accurate overview and compare the three countries across the key activities rather than describing them in isolation.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The response has separate paragraphs and attempts to move from an overview to country-specific details, so there is some organisation. However, the progression is difficult to follow: the second paragraph makes a broad comparison, the third focuses on Japan, and the final paragraph shifts to Germany and then the UK without a clear pattern. Linking words such as “While” are used repeatedly, sometimes joining ideas that are not clearly contrasted. The opening also repeats the task wording rather than introducing the data efficiently. Organise the body by activity or use a consistent country-by-country structure, and use clear references and transitions to show how each comparison relates to the overview.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use some task-relevant vocabulary, including “studying,” “relaxing,” “sleeping,” “highest,” and “lowest,” and the reader can generally identify the intended categories. However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations are inaccurate, such as “Japan is accounted for highest number,” “stood first in that list,” and “relaxing rate is quite impressive.” These expressions make the comparisons less precise and sometimes obscure whether you mean hours or percentages. Spelling errors such as “relevent” and “amoung” also reduce control. Use the chart’s unit consistently as hours, and choose straightforward reporting language such as “spent,” “recorded,” and “the figure for.”
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt longer sentences with contrast clauses, for example, “While the studying is recorded as highest percentage in Germany…,” but complex structures are often faulty, and sentence control is inconsistent. Errors include “Japan is accounted for,” “The Japan is stood first,” and “sleeping percentage is 8% which is 1% greater then Japan,” where verb forms, articles, and sentence construction interfere with clarity. Several sentences also lack appropriate punctuation or contain awkward clause connections. Practise accurate simple comparison patterns first, such as “Japan recorded 13 hours of study, compared with 9 in Germany,” then combine them with correctly formed clauses. This will improve both grammatical range and readability.
