Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5
You identify several relevant comparisons, including Japan’s highest study figure (13) and its lowest relaxation figure (4), and you attempt an overview across the three activities. However, the overview is unclear and includes a contradiction: “studying has most popular in all countries” conflicts with the figures, since studying is not the highest activity in the UK or Germany. Some comparisons are also inaccurate or imprecise, such as saying sleeping is highest in the UK without clarifying that Germany is close, and describing relaxation as “cheapest.” The response contains 141 words, below the required 150; eight words copied from the prompt are excluded. Add a clearer overview and accurately report the main comparisons to address the task more fully.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5
The response has an attempted overview followed by country-based paragraphs, so the reader can recognise a basic plan. However, progression is difficult to follow because comparisons are repeated and some statements do not connect logically. For example, “In studying has most popular in all countries” appears in the overview and again in the Japan paragraph, although it does not match the data. Linking phrases such as “In UK,” “In Japan,” and “In the context” are used, but the latter does not introduce a clear comparison, and repeated “while” clauses make relationships harder to track. Organise the report around a concise overview and clear country or activity comparisons, using accurate references between sentences.
Lexical Resource: Band 4.5
Your vocabulary is basic and repetitive, with recurring use of “highest,” “lowest,” and “popular” to describe different kinds of comparisons. Several choices are inaccurate or unnatural and strain understanding: “counties” for countries, “cheapest” for the lowest number of hours, and “decline to line wise line” for a comparison across activities. Spelling errors such as “wheares” and “activites” also reduce control. You do use relevant chart terms, including “bar chart,” “sleeping,” “studying,” and “relaxing,” so the topic remains identifiable. Build a more precise range for describing figures and rankings, and check spelling and collocations before finishing.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
There are attempts to form longer sentences with comparisons, for example, “In sleeping has 7%, wheares studying has highest at 13%, while relaxing has cheapest at 4% in Japan.” However, sentence structures are very limited and frequent errors affect clarity. Examples include missing or misplaced verbs in “sleeping has highest,” “In studying has highest,” and “In all countries has most typical weekday.” Articles and prepositions are also often missing or incorrectly used, as in “in the UK” and “in the Germany.” The final sentence is especially difficult to interpret because its grammatical relationships are unclear. Practise accurate simple comparison sentences first, then combine them with “while” or “whereas” once the basic clauses are controlled.
