Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.
Student answer (Band 5.5)
The bar chart illustrates data on the students' weekdays of 3 nations, they are the Uk, Japan and Germany.
Overall, studying had its peak position in both Japan and Germany, while it had a lower proportion in the United Kingdom. In contrast, relaxing had a lower proportion than sleeping among the three countries' pupils.
On the one hand, studying among the three countries' learners had a great impact. Its number always showed a higher ratio among Japanese students and German learners, while it was 13 in Japan as well as 9 in Germany. Nevertheless in the UK it experienced something different. Studying saw 2nd place , its ratio was 8, while sleeping had a higher proportion in the UK, at 8.5.In contrast, sleeping in both Japan and Germany hold second place. About 7 in Japanese pupils and 8 in German pupils.
On the other hand, relaxing always tested the lowest proportion among these three nation. Both German and British learners had the same number in this field which was 7 in ratio. yet Japanese pupils had the lowest interest in this case, only 4 in proportion did it in their weekdays

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
You identify the three countries and all three activities, and your overview correctly notes that studying is highest in Japan and Germany while relaxing is the lowest activity in each country. Several key figures are also accurate: studying is 13 hours in Japan and 9 in Germany, and relaxing is 7 in the UK and Germany and 4 in Japan. However, the overview is not fully precise: studying is also the highest activity in the UK, at 8 hours, rather than having a generally lower proportion there. The claim that sleeping ranks second in Japan and Germany is inaccurate, since it is the lowest activity in Japan and second in Germany. Report the comparisons more carefully and make the overview consistent with the data.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, an overview, and separate paragraphs for studying/sleeping and relaxing. This gives the reader a basic route through the information. However, progression within paragraphs is sometimes unclear. For example, “On the one hand” introduces studying, but the paragraph then shifts between countries and activities without a consistent comparison pattern. “Nevertheless” and “In contrast” do not always signal a clear contrast, and the final paragraph begins with “On the other hand” even though it is not presenting a balanced opposing argument. Organise the details by activity or country, and use simpler links such as “By comparison” only where the relationship is clear.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use relevant vocabulary for describing data, including “peak,” “higher proportion,” “lowest,” and “same number,” so the main comparisons are generally understandable. However, some choices are unnatural or imprecise for a chart report. “Studying had its peak position” and “relaxing always tested the lowest proportion” do not express the data naturally, while “had a great impact” suggests an effect rather than time spent. Repeated use of “proportion” and “ratio” is also unsuitable because the figures represent hours, not shares or ratios. Choose precise terms such as “hours,” “highest figure,” and “spent relaxing,” and avoid varying vocabulary when the alternative changes the meaning.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt a mixture of simple and more complex sentences, including contrast clauses such as “while sleeping had a higher proportion in the UK.” However, errors in sentence construction and verb forms are noticeable and sometimes make relationships harder to follow. The opening sentence joins two independent clauses with a comma, and “sleeping in both Japan and Germany hold second place” has a subject–verb agreement error. The fragment “About 7 in Japanese pupils and 8 in German pupils” is not a complete sentence, while “8.5.In contrast” needs a space after the full stop. Work on complete sentence boundaries, agreement, and consistent past or present-tense reporting; these corrections would make your comparisons clearer.
