Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

You identify the three countries and activities, and your overview attempts to highlight the main pattern: studying is highest and relaxing is generally lower. However, the overview is not fully accurate: studying is not the highest activity in all three countries, since sleeping (8.5 hours) exceeds studying (8 hours) in the UK. Some figures are also misreported or unclear: Germany’s studying is 9 hours, not 9 days, and the chart shows hours rather than days. The response gives only a limited account of the comparisons and leaves the UK’s highest sleeping figure and Germany’s pattern insufficiently explained. It is also 46 words below the required minimum, which restricts the detail and coverage. Develop a more precise overview and compare the key figures across all three countries.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a basic structure: an introduction, an overview, and two paragraphs that attempt to compare the countries. Phrases such as “To begin with” and “Further analysing the data” signal movement between points. However, the progression is not consistently clear, and several comparisons are repeated rather than developed—for example, Japan’s high studying and low relaxing are mentioned again at the end. Linking words are sometimes used inaccurately or awkwardly, as in “while, sleeping” and “In contrast” where the relationship is not clearly expressed. Missing spaces after punctuation and run-on phrasing also make the organisation harder to follow. Group the comparisons more deliberately, use clear transitions, and ensure each paragraph adds a distinct feature.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use some relevant chart vocabulary, including “illustrates,” “allocated,” “accounts,” and “In contrast,” so the reader can recognise that you are describing data. However, the range is limited, and several choices are inaccurate or unnatural. “Studying stood at the highest” and “sleeping accounts 9 days” do not express the comparisons clearly; “accounts least weekdays ahsre” is especially difficult to understand. The repeated use of “stood” and “highest” also makes the description less precise. Take care to use the chart’s unit consistently: these figures represent hours, not days. Broader, accurate language for comparing values—such as “recorded,” “spent,” “the largest amount of time,” and “the lowest figure”—would improve clarity.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and more complex sentences, including a comparison beginning “while” and a sentence starting “Further analysing the data.” However, grammatical errors are frequent and sometimes make the meaning difficult to follow. For example, “Overall, studying stood at the highest during weekdays in three countries” has unclear sentence structure, while “sleeping stood at 7 and 4 days are allocated” combines clauses without a clear grammatical relationship. There are also missing spaces after commas and full stops, and the sentence “roughly same8.5 and 8” lacks the structure needed to present the figures. Practise forming complete comparison sentences with clear subjects and verbs, and check punctuation and spacing carefully.
