Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
You identify relevant categories and make several accurate comparisons: studying is highest in Japan at 13 hours, while relaxing is 7 hours in both the UK and Germany. However, the overview is not fully accurate. Studying is not the major activity in Germany, where sleeping (8 hours) is only slightly below studying (9), and relaxing is not the lowest activity in all three countries: in Japan, relaxing (4) is lower than sleeping (7), but in the UK and Germany it is sleeping that is higher than relaxing. The claim that sleeping was “almost stable” is also vague, given the range from 7 to 8.5 hours. Select the main contrasts more carefully and give a clear, accurate overview before supporting it with figures.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response has a basic structure, moving from an introduction and overview to details about studying, relaxing and sleeping. This gives the reader some organisation, and comparisons such as “In contrast” help signal differences. However, progression is weakened by the fragmented overview: “Whereas, relaxing was the lowest…” and “Sleeping was averagely stable” do not connect clearly to the preceding ideas. The repeated focus on each activity also makes the report feel list-like rather than organised around the most important comparisons. Some linking is mechanical, and punctuation around transitions is inconsistent. Grouping the figures into clearer comparisons—for example, Japan versus the other countries—would make the information easier to follow.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use a range of task-related terms, including “illustrates,” “ranked first,” “recorded,” and “in contrast,” so the main information is generally understandable. However, several word choices and collocations are inaccurate or awkward, such as “the average of the daily activities,” “the weakest,” and “approximately 3 times less.” “Stable” is also not a precise description of the sleeping figures, which differ across countries. Spelling and capitalisation errors, including “avergely,” “germany,” and “united kingdom,” reduce control. Aim for precise language for chart comparisons and use standard country names consistently. A more accurate phrase such as “was lower by three hours” would avoid ambiguity.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt some complex sentence forms, including contrast clauses with “Whereas” and “While,” and most of the intended comparisons can be understood. However, control is uneven: “Whereas, relaxing was the lowest…” is an incomplete or awkwardly attached clause, and “While studying recorded the highest score in Japan, sleeping was the weakest” has unclear punctuation and structure. There are also errors in articles, possessives and sentence boundaries, as in “in united kingdom it was at his lowest at 8.” Commas and spacing are inconsistent, particularly around introductory phrases. Practise forming complete comparison sentences and checking that each subordinate clause is attached to a main clause; this will make your meaning clearer.
