Student answer (Band 5.5)

Nowadays smoking in an increasing issue that not only causes serious health problems but also impacting out environment. Because of that many people argue that it should be made illegal. I partially believe that smoking should be forbid, also be strictly restricted in many places because of it's easy availability, younger generations getting addictive towards it. However it bring hung amount of revenue to our economy.

To begin with, smoking causes many serious health disease such as cancer, body paralysis. The reason is cigarettes and tabaco like substance hold many harmful chemicals and by inhaling this smokers causes damage their body by creating hallucinations and give certain relief . Therefore young students getting addicted towards smoking. It also lead to many serious thread like bulling or robbery . That's why smoking should be forbid in school, collage and university areas. Smoking also affect normal public so in areas like hospital and money other public places smoking should be banned. It will create a more suitable place or neighbourhood to live in.

However, while some argue that it should totally banned because of the harmful effect, there are some positive point of view. Cigarettes generate revenue , which is a significant amount of money help our economy to run smoothly. Furthermore, cigarettes company provide many job opportunities for many individuals, therefore made it illegal would create unemployment issue. For instance, there are many worker in a tabaco company, so sudden illegal call make issues on finance and also will impact the society.

In conclusion, although there are many health problems are associated with smoking, this can be address by forbid smoking in public places and raise awareness among smoker to stop or limit smoking. Moreover, the economical factor can't be neglected, therefore government should take steps to address this problem without hampering the economy and society.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

Your position is identifiable: you partly oppose making smoking illegal, while supporting restrictions in public places. You address both health harms and economic consequences, and examples such as banning smoking near schools and hospitals are relevant. This covers the main parts of the question. However, some points need fuller explanation to make your reasoning convincing. For example, the link between smoking and “bulling or robbery” is asserted without showing how these outcomes arise, and the economic argument would be stronger with a clearer explanation of why regulation could not preserve revenue and jobs. Clarify exactly what you mean by “partially” agreeing and distinguish a total ban from targeted restrictions throughout.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, two contrasting body paragraphs and a conclusion. The progression from health concerns to economic considerations is easy to follow, and signposts such as “To begin with,” “However” and “In conclusion” help guide the reader. This organisation is effective, though some connections between claims are abrupt or unclear. For instance, the move from harmful chemicals to hallucinations and then to student addiction needs a more explicit explanation. The conclusion also introduces awareness-raising without developing it earlier. To strengthen progression further, organise each body paragraph around one main claim, explain it, and then give a directly relevant example; use linking phrases to show the relationship between ideas rather than relying mainly on standard transitions.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use vocabulary relevant to the topic, including “serious health problems,” “harmful chemicals,” “revenue,” “job opportunities” and “unemployment.” These choices allow you to discuss both public health and economic effects. However, the range and control are limited by repeated or imprecise wording, and several choices make meaning difficult to interpret. Phrases such as “body paralysis,” “creating hallucinations,” “serious thread” and “money other public places” do not express the intended ideas clearly. Spelling and word-form errors, including “tabaco,” “addictive” and “economical,” also reduce accuracy. Build a more precise topic vocabulary and check collocations: for example, use established terms for smoking-related diseases and say that smoking “poses a risk” rather than using an unclear phrase such as “serious thread.”

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt a mixture of simple and complex sentences, including clauses introduced by “because,” “while” and “therefore,” and the overall meaning is usually recoverable. However, errors in sentence structure and grammatical forms occur across the response and sometimes make relationships between ideas unclear. Examples include “Nowadays smoking in an increasing issue,” “it should be forbid,” “it also lead,” and “Cigarettes generate revenue, which is a significant amount of money help our economy.” Subject–verb agreement, verb forms, articles and clause construction need more consistent control. Practise checking each sentence for a clear subject and finite verb, and make sure clauses are joined correctly. For example, revise the revenue sentence into two clauses: “Cigarettes generate significant revenue, which helps the economy run smoothly.”
