Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
Your position is clear: you firmly support making smoking illegal, and you give relevant reasons, including illness, the burden of treatment costs, and harm to passive smokers. These points address the question, and the examples of diseases help explain the health risks. However, the response shifts between banning smoking in public places and making the product illegal altogether, so the scope of your position is not fully clear. Some claims, such as passive smokers being “more prone” to smoking than active smokers, are unclear or unsupported. Develop the distinction between restricting public smoking and prohibiting all smoking, and explain one or two key reasons more precisely with relevant examples.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response has an overall structure: an introduction states your view, the middle paragraphs present health and social reasons and propose a ban, and the conclusion restates your position. Linking expressions such as “Moreover,” “Furthermore,” and “Therefore” help signal relationships between ideas. At times, however, the progression is mechanical, and connections between claims are not always clear. For example, the sentence about passive smokers being “more prone to smoking as compare to active smoker” does not clearly follow from the point about illness. The second body paragraph also moves from public places to nicotine, public awareness, and manufacturers without fully explaining the links. Organise each paragraph around one main reason and use clearer references between sentences.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You attempt vocabulary relevant to the topic, including “cardiovascular disease,” “passive smoker,” “treatment cost,” and “financial burden.” This gives you some range beyond basic terms. However, noticeable spelling, word-form, and collocation errors sometimes make the meaning difficult to follow, as in “contempary,” “life thretning,” “fatal consciconsess,” and “gain more perks.” Some phrases are also imprecise, such as “smoking is rise more rapidly” and “small habit of smoking.” Aim to learn accurate topic-specific collocations and check spelling carefully. Using fewer, more precise expressions will make your argument clearer than relying on ambitious but inaccurate wording.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple and more complex sentence forms, including sentences beginning with “because” and “therefore,” and you communicate the main position despite some grammatical errors. However, control is inconsistent, particularly with verb forms, agreement, articles, and sentence boundaries. For example, “smoking is rise” and “governments should taken” use incorrect verb forms, while “it cause harmful effects” does not agree with its subject. Several sentences join clauses awkwardly, such as “Cigarrate contain nicotine and it is a harmful drug can cause serious disease.” Practise building complete sentences with a clear subject and verb, and check agreement and tense. More accurate complex sentences would make your reasoning easier to follow.
