Student answer (Band 5.5)
It is true that smoking is responsible for hazardous disease and government must made it illegal throughout the world. I strongly agree with this statement for many various logics.
There are a number of reason why smoking should made illegal. One of the main reasons is that it significantly affect on people's health. For instance, when individuals are doing smoking in regularly, it may causes cardiovascular disease, lung disease and cancer. As a consequence, by making strict rules and punnishments, people's consumption on smoking reduced. Another significant reason is that it greatly affects on studies. For example, in todays world, younger generation become addicted in smoking. By addicting in smoking, younger people are loss their concentration. As a result, it greatly impact on their curriculumn activities whiche causes they may fail in exam.
In addition, smoking should be illegal for few reasons. First of all, it may badly impact on families. To cite an example, if a person are addicted in smoking, they required more money from their parents. Consequently, it might creates economic pressure on a family which causes whole family are suffer financial crisis. Moreover, it can causes polluted the environment. Hence, when an individual are smoking in public areas, it helps toxic gas mixed with air which causes air pollution. Furthermore, it may impact on childs life. Whenever a child noticed a old aged people being smoking, they may become curious about this and want to try its flavour which badly affect on their life.
In conclusion, even though smoking causes harmful disease, it ought to be made illegal for save the environment from pollution, reduce financial crisis and saves the younger generation from bad addicted.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
Your position is clear from the opening: you strongly agree that smoking should be illegal, and the conclusion returns to this view. You give several relevant reasons, including health risks, effects on family finances, pollution, and young people’s exposure. This addresses the task, but some points are less fully explained than others. The health argument names diseases, while the claim that smoking harms studies and concentration is asserted without showing how this supports a legal ban. The family-finance and child-imitation examples are also brief. To strengthen the response, explain the link between each consequence and making smoking illegal, and develop the strongest examples with clearer reasoning or evidence.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, two body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Ideas are grouped by topic, and signposts such as “For instance,” “In addition,” and “In conclusion” help readers follow the argument. However, the progression within the body paragraphs is sometimes mechanical, with several points introduced in quick succession rather than developed. The second paragraph, for example, moves from family finances to pollution and then children’s behaviour without clear links between these ideas. Some cause-and-effect connections are also difficult to follow. Organise each paragraph around one main reason, explain it, and then give a relevant example; use referencing and transitions to make the relationships between sentences clearer.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use a range of topic-related vocabulary, including “cardiovascular disease,” “economic pressure,” “air pollution,” and “addicted,” so the main ideas are generally understandable. There are also attempts to use more formal expressions, such as “To cite an example.” However, inaccurate word choice, collocation, and spelling reduce precision: “hazardous disease,” “consumption on smoking,” and “bad addicted” do not express the intended meanings naturally. Errors such as “punnishments,” “curriculumn,” and “whiche” also affect the impression of control. Build accuracy by learning common word partnerships—for example, “smoking causes disease” and “become addicted to smoking”—and checking spelling and word forms during revision.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple and complex sentences, including conditional and cause-and-effect structures such as “if a person are addicted in smoking” and “which causes whole family are suffer financial crisis.” This shows an effort to connect ideas, but errors in verb forms, agreement, and sentence construction occur across the response and sometimes make relationships unclear. For example, “government must made it illegal” needs a base verb after “must,” while “it significantly affect” requires subject–verb agreement. Articles and plurals also need attention, as in “a number of reason.” Practise checking each sentence for its subject and verb, and build complex sentences from accurate clauses before adding connectors such as “which” or “when.”
